How do you remove the blades they are on so tight I cant remove them.

How do you remove the blades they are on so tight I cant remove them.
Asked by: willie
Hi! I just replaced my stock blades with mulcher blades. I have a half inch socket wrench, and I used a regular hammer on the socket handle. It only took about 3 strikes to loosen the bolts. Be careful and make sure the blades are wedged solid. This blades are SHARP!!!

Will it mow in reverse or do I have to turn the blades off each time?

Asked by: Blake
Yes it mows in reverse! read the manual. I bought mine last spring, and the winter has been long, I now have to reacquaint myself with my buddy. I say buddy, because taking care of the lawn was actually a way out of the house for a few hours, and with weedeating, and keeping the machine clean, I always worked up a nice sweat, but, that's why I bought a pool too, nothing like living the suburban life. You just have to know how?...I personally send the wife to bingo.

Will this mower fit through a 48 inch gate?
Asked by: Bob
Yes, I bought this one because I have 48 inch gates. I put the mulch package on it so the side discharge is not there and it fits with about an inch or two on each side. If you leave the discharge chute on you can swivel it up to make it through the gate.

can it mow in revers
Asked by: guven
Yes, I do it several times each mowing. Just set the key in the proper position and hold the button until the light comes on. However, sometimes the light turned off and when I reversed the engine shut down. Noticed last time that I sometimes bump my right knee against the key, so I don't think it's the mower's fault.

XT1 Enduro Series LT 42 in. 18 HP Kohler Hydrostatic Gas Front-Engine Riding Lawn Tractor is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 1970.

BEWARE: Nowhere in the specifications do they bother to tell you that you must be a heavy person to use this mower. Because of the "safety features", if you are not heavy enough, the mower will stall as soon as you try to release the safety brake. I don't know what the limit is, but it is well over 110 pounds. When I called Cub Cadet for help, all they said was they understood my frustration and to look on You Tube for help. Really? I just paid $1600 for a mower and that is the extent of your help? Most of the You Tube videos are outdated, so if you have to go that route be careful. The easiest fix is to take the switch out from under the seat, depress the button, and fix it in place. A good strong tape would work, but there is one You Tube video which shows drilling a small hole while the button is depressed then using a pin to hold it in place. That is what I did and it works. Now that I finally got to actually use the mower, I can tell you that it easily mows knee high grass in the rain.

I purchased a Cub Cadet XT1 with a 18HP Kohler Courage engine in February 2017. It ran flawlessly for two years and was a great mower for that short time. Unfortunately, it seems that is the lifespan you can expect from these models. It was advertised with a three year warranty, and the paperwork that came with the mower indicates Cub Cadet offers a three year warranty, and the separate paperwork that came with the engine states it is a three year warranty for the Kohler engine as well. In May 2019, the engine suffered catastrophic failure with just over 35 hours on the mower. The engine blew parts through the back of the engine block with no warning of incoming failure. The oil level was full at the time. The mower was very well maintained, and had the oil, and oil filter, changed annually. (I did not come anywhere near the 25 hour mark per oil change noted in the manual) Miraculously, the engine still turns over and will even run (although very rough.) This leads me to believe some kind of balancer or internal component other than the rod/piston snapped and made it's way through the back of the engine block. Now, being just over two years old, you would think warranty would cover the repair with little to no fuss. I first contacted Home Depot and was informed I would have to go through the engine manufacturer to obtain warranty. After contacting a local Kohler dealer and renting a trailer to deliver the mower to them at my own expense, I was informed that Kohler only warranties the engine for two years. I was offered no explanation as to why I was provided documentation with the original purchase that indicated a three year warranty on both the engine and the mower. After multiple calls, a representative from Kohler informed me that Cub Cadet would be responsible for the third year of warranty on their engine. So again, i rented a trailer at my own expense, and have to trailer the mower to a Cub Cadet dealer. I am hopeful Cub Cadet will stand by their product better than Kohler stands by theirs. I will update this review if they provide any assistance at all, but potential buyers should be aware of the headache that could follow with this purchase regardless. Home Depot has provided zero assistance as well, as it is a manufacturer warranty and not related to Home Depot, they will not assist in any communication or exchange process since it is not their extended protection plan. I can't fault them much here, but I am highly dissatisfied with the overall customer service provided by all three of the parties involved at this point simply passing the blame to the next party. (Home Depot, Kohler, Cub Cadet.) This will be my first and last Cub Cadet/MTB product regardless of the outcome. Buyer beware. Avoid any mower of any brand with a Kohler engine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The unit was delivered to me with a flat tire... The unit was delivered to me with a flat tire which inflated. The tire soon went flat again. When I attempted to have the tire replaced I was first given the option of dealing with the Cub Cadet service center but was put on hold. When I suggested cancelling the purchase I was given a replacemcent tire for the Cadet. After using the Cadet to mow my lawn I noticed a bolt and nut on the deck. Checking it our I discovered the bolt was one of the mountings for the seat and it had come loose because it was put in backwards. Checking the seat mounting bolts I discovered the other bolt was also in backwards. I also discovered two missing bolts used to mount the seat onto the base. I have not been back to the Home Depot yet for those. I dread to find out what else is going to fall off as I continue to use the Cadet. I am beginning to doubt the quality control for products from Home Depot and question if I want to continue shopping with this company. I have in the past made other major purchases with Home Depot but again have doubts if I will make other major purchases in the future.

Compared to an old, single blade 30", low hp mid engine rider I've been using nearly 20 years, this new efi 42" Cub Cadet is like a new vehicle. Comfortable to ride with easy maneuverability and fast clean cut. However, a couple of teeth at one side of the steering gear sprocket were either missing or broke on my first trip across the yard upon making a full u-turn. The steering now disengages if the wheel is turned completely to the left.

The ride is very bumpy, more so then my old Murray. I no longer have a smooth yard. Seat belts poped into my mind. The seat does not seam comfortable. The neibors yard is smother, but the ride still bumpy. It took a month to figure out why the cruse contro didn't work. With cruse control the ride is better. When I got the mower, I bought mulching blades to go with it. First set was not sharpened and they seemed 'light". Not like other blades I had. Second set was ok. After 2 1/2 months I hit a tree root with the blades and one side of blade bent down approx 60 degrees. I could not belive it. I've hit a lot of things over the years, broke sheare pins and chipped blades. Never bent a blade or by that much if I did. Mower deck easy to take off. Had trouble getting the plastic hood cover to stay on. But once on properly, it stays on. Still have not used it enough to give better evaluation. Maybe do another evalvuation in the fall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lawn tractor This thing is great. Cuts even, good hydrostatic drive system, push button start, and above all, fuel injected. Starts perfectly every time (beginning my second season on it with last season’s gas). Steering radius is very tight, not quite a zero turn, but dang good for a tractor type mower. The ride could be improved, as it tends to transmit every little bump to the seat, but I came from a small zero turn that lasted 10+ years. My only complaint: check behind your store if they assembled it. The hood cover almost flew off on the way home (snaps into the top of the hood) and the belt was not installed correctly, leaving said belt in much poorer condition than it should be at this age. I only found the belt problem today, when the mower threw the belt while engaging the blades. Upset me enough to write this review. Great product, poorly assembled at the store.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lemon and crate issues I like the second reviewer hot it but was told it would be assembled on site..nope they don't do that so i fought with getting it off the crate for a day and a half while putting together seat and hood, steering wheel..not to hard after i got it off the crate i waited till next day to assemble battery . Checked oil full, added gas no problem..and go it back ired once and didn't seem to have a lot of power..finished up lawn cleaned it up. Let it cool and put in garage. Woke up to gas fumes all the way into the house from the garage...it was leaking gas all over from the fuel filter. Called home depot ,said i would have to call a Kohler tech in my area cone out to fix even though i had the regular warrentee and the extended i had to pay more...nope set up for them to take there lemon back ..i will get something else cost 1699. Paid 2100.00 with shipping and no assembly and extra warrentee just to start out on a bad note..nope i will get something else

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality. No warranty coverage from Cub Cadet Bought this mower in August 2019. I put a total of 10.3 hours on it, and after mowing last Saturday, it wouldn't start. I noticeda puddle of fuel on the ground under the mower. I called Cub Cadet and found the closest authorized service center is 35+ miles from my home. On arrival at the service center, I notice this company sells just about everything except for Cub Cadet. I ask why they service it, but they won't sell it. The service guy tells me they used to sell Cub Cadet, but had too many warranty issues that Cub Cadet wouldn't cover and this was driving their customers away. So, I left the mower for service, and they call me back and tell me there was "black powder" in the carb. Whatever trash was in the carb caused the mower to leak gas and oil into the crank case. I'm told that Cub Cadet doesn't cover this, even though there are only 10.3 hours on the mower, and the mower was only 9 months old. $106 repair on a mower that is 9 months old, that cost me $1600 brand new. MTD bought the Cub Cadet brand, and they're running it into the ground just like all their other brands. Stay away from Cub Cadet, and anything made by the MTD conglomerate. They have put profits over quality, and have entered the death spiral.
