I used gray floor tile thinset mortor. Rolled the underlayment onto the concrete floor using a roller I purchased from big box store. Worked great for me.

Can I use this over sheet vinyl?

Looking to lay tile in a kitchen which currently has sheet vinyl. I am trying to avoid adding any unnecessary height to the floor since it has wood floors that connect to it. The sheet vinyl is over a wood subfloor, but due to the fact that it is still well adhered, I do not know if it is simply perimeter glued. If I have to put a layer of 1/4 in backer, that will obviously add to the thickness, so I am looking for ways to avoid that. Any help?
Asked by: Aaron
It would work if you scarified, or roughed up the surface of the sheet vinyl throughout the space and then adhered EasyMat over that before beginning your tile. In so doing you will discover just how well the vinyl is installed and/or if removing the sheet vinyl and existing subfloor in order to start anew with Hardiebacker or similar product would be the more prudent move in order to maintain your floor levels in the adjacent spaces.

EasyMat 300 sq. ft. 4 ft. x 75 ft. x 0.20 in. Underlayment for Tile and Stone is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Underlayment was relatively easy to install. Time consuming, but easy to install. I'm not a til... Underlayment was relatively easy to install. Time consuming, but easy to install. I'm not a tile pro and will not pretend to be; however, I will share what worked for me. When installing this underlayment, ensure you use a roller to press out air gaps. Rolling the underlayment will also ensure the mat adheres to the thinset (or whatever else you may be using to bond). If you do not roll the underlayment during installation you will have a rolling hills type effect and your tile project will look horrible. Use a roller, use a roller, use a roller. The picture shows the tile set into place on top of the underlayment. I used thinset to adhere the underlayment to the concrete flooring and to adhere the tile to the underlayment. My main reason for using the underlayment was to prevent (as best a possilble) tile movement in the event of concrete subfloor cracking/movement. Overall, this was a great product for our tile installation.
