Questions & Answers

This grout left a terrible residue and discolored my tiles! HOW do I get this off!

Asked by: leanna
I read through these responses and tried the PRO Grade Goof Off with a blue scrubby sponge. Worked great. Get the residue wet with the Goof Off and let it soak for 30 second or so. Come back with the scrubby and off it comes. I would not get the actual grout line very wet but just the surface of the tile. The sponge leaves a bit of dirt and blue sponge so then it is easy to see where the residual grout is on the surface. I used PRO Grade Goof Off in the metal can. I have not liked the newer Goof Off as it does nothing for the things I have tried to use it for. You might not be able to get the Xylene based stuff in all states or counties.

Does this grout need to be sealed?

Asked by: ChrisDiMarioo
The container says you don't need to seal it. I called the company and the person I spoke to said I don't need to seal it. Pay attention it is a BIG lie. You need to seal this grout otherwise your grout will stain. I word to the wise.

Custom Building Products Fusion Pro #11 Snow White 1 Gal. Single Component Grout is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 1262.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good It's been a year now since our contractor picked out this product for a bathroom remodel because I specified mold resistant grout. We had to pay an upcharge to the tile subcontractor to work with this grout. Immediately after the project was finished, I could see there was going to be a problem. The grout had a crumbly texture and bits came off when you wiped the tile to clean it. The texture made the grout a dirt magnet on the shower floor, so we immediately ripped out the tile there and redid the floor with conventional grout. We decided to live with the grout on the shower walls at least for a while and what happened. Guess what? The conventional grout on the shower floor isn't growing mold yet, but the supposed mold resistant grout on the walls begin growing mold in a few weeks. I can't scrub these grout lines with a toothbrush, though, because this awful grout will simply crumble away. We're going to have to bite the bullet and regrout the whole shower. Don't use this product.

People seem to dislike this grout but they would have a better experience if they were prepared. Buy 2-3 of the large orange HD buckets and 6 tile sponges. Fill your buckets with cool water and toss 2 sponges in each bucket. Open your grout and apply a generous amount of water with a clean sponge on the a small area you plan to grout, not just the gaps but the entire tile surface. If you used enough water then the Fusion Pro will spread nicely, use too little and it will be like spreading corn flakes and it will fall of off your float. spread the grout on the gaps of two 12x12 tiles max and then use a clean sponge to wipe the excess (lightly) and then toss that sponge in a bucket and use a clean one to repeat, then do the same with a third. Wring our the sponges and then repeat until you are finished, it goes faster than you might imagine. Leaves nice clean lines and cures fast.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money, poor guidance on DIY We purchased Fusion Pro grout on the advice of a Home Depot associate for our Schluter Kerdi shower system. After following instructions exactly as written, the grout on the floor of our shower began to wash away. The only option for us now, per an associate at Custom Building Products (the Fusion Pro manufacturer), is to scrape out the Fusion Pro and replace it with a sanded grout. The issue we are facing is that moisture is trapped under the Fusion Pro and therefore, it will not cure. This is apparently a very common issue and is nothing to be concerned over, however, you have to make sure you use the appropriate product and Fusion Pro is not that. It would have been nice to have been given this heads up along with signs of what to look for from the Home Depot associate. Any expert, which the mentioned associate claimed to be, would have informed us of this pitfall. Now we are without a shower (again) while we wait for the moisture to evaporate and re-grout using a different product. Thanks, Home Depot.

I have never installed a back splash and after applying the tiles, I then attempted to grout. I wanted a ready mixed grout because of consistency both in spread ability and in color. After studying products available, I selected Fusion Pro. I can now tell you that it did the job as intended and I am very pleased. As you can see by the photos, I haven't even put back the sockets as I completed this last night. Since it was a vertical section there was a lot of grout falling on the surface and that was expected. Placing cardboard on the counters really helped in the cleanup. The color was consistent and this morning I again am really pleased with the project. It costs more that bagged grout but to me its well worth it. No mixing, no dust, just open the container and begin. One last thing, the online instructions from Fusion Pro helped and I followed them totally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fusion pro I had never used this product before. I have always used regular powdered grout that you mix with water. I wanted something equivalent to epoxy grout but that was easier to install. I read the reviews and product sheet on fusion pro and decided to try it. I was surprised when I opened the container that it was not wet as I had expected. It was like wood putty. I thought something was wrong with it. I had a hard time getting it into the wall joints, most of it ended up on the floor. I had to force it into the joints with my fingers. When I did the kitchen counter and it was a little easier. The instructions say to dampen the tile. I was not getting the tile wet enough. Once I got the right amount of water on it, it turned creamy and went on easily. You have to experiment with how much water to get on the tile. It looks great. I have not used the counter yet as I am waiting for it to cure. I hope it holds up as well as epoxy grout. My advice it to experiment with how wet to get the tile if you are having problems with it.

So far no problems. The color is what I expected. I was leery of using this grout based on neg reviews on the application. So, I grouted a small 2'X3' area first to get the hang of how to grout Fusion. Here's what I learned: 1. Stop grouting after 3 minutes. 2. Start wiping off the Fusion right away (don't wait!) 3. Use two buckets, one for the initial sponging and the other for the microfibre final cleaning. 4. A nylon scrub pad is very useful in removing dried Fusion. 5. Finally, use a semi-dry Microfibre cloth to remove haze. Then start another 3 minute grouting. Half way, I ran out of Fusion for the floor and had to use regular grout for the rest. The Fusion was quicker to apply and easier than the regular grout. I will use Fusion for future projects.

Struggled to keep the tiles clean while using and experienced the color washing out in areas if too much water (which is used in 4 steps of the post-application instructions) got into the grout lines. I ended up telling my professional to remove it after attempting 3 sections and unsuccessfully getting an even color across all lines following the method on both the website and back. I ended up running the shop vac as we gouged it out and used scrubs brushes and sponges to completely remove the product so as not to ruin the tile that was just placed. I would not recommend it and think Home Depot would do well to give up on the entire line.

If you are expecting to use this product like regular sanded grout, forget it. It is like latex paint with sand. After floating this grout into joints I came back to wet spong the joints 10 minutes later and it was set up and acted like drying paint. A film on top that wrinkled and clotted making that step impossible. The directions proved to be no help. You would have to work the product in 1 foot square areas at a time to keep it from drying to much to wipe clean. This was on Tennessee limestone which ultimately had to be jackhammered out and redone since the product stuck to the stone and could not be removed without grinding the product off. What an expensive mess.
