Questions & Answers

How long does the Polyblend caulk need to cure? Can't find this info anywhere! Thanks.

Asked by: Jaye
I called the company because after 4 days of cure time it became soft and started to peel when we started taking showers. Bottom line is this type of caulk needs a minimum of 7 days to cure. It’s not like a silicone caulk. It cures by evaporation. The guy I talked to said just like the pro fusion grout it’s extremely important the caulk gets the full dry time. Every day for a few hours I put a heater in the bathroom and closed the door to keep the bathroom at 75 so it would have a better chance at curing properly. If you only have one shower, like us, he said give it 24 hours after caulking before using the shower then for the rest of the time to put plastic up, ceiling to inside the tub, so the walls and caulking do not get wet. Then remove the plastic after each shower so it can breath and dry.

No - Caulk that is not meant for being exposed to water! (beyond... a little bit)

Does this product come in nonsanded, and is it recommended for use inside a shower base ?
Asked by: plumber
I think it comes in both (might have to order) but it DOES NOT work inside a shower, it just softened and dissolved into a big mess. I used it and had to redo it all with the SILICONE Custom caulk that I got online for 11-12 bucks.

Is this product paintable ?

Asked by: Mac
I don't know. Why would you pay almost $8 a tube for this color specific caulk and then paint it? Just buy a tube of the $1.98 HDX white then paint that.

This product has the worst working characteristics of any product I've ever used that came out of a tube and was applied with a caulking gun, and I've used caulking guns for 60 years. It's thin and dribbles from the tube long after pressure is released. It smears and doesn't fill well because the body is so light and liquidy, and the bead can't easily be worked afterwards with a caulk finishing tool because the consistency is so viscous and smeary. The tube instructions warn that it stains and you need to mask surrounding areas, which is very true. The working consistency (body) of the product is my main complaint because it resists getting a good result without unnecessary fussing, so it's unpleasant to use for that reason. Ultimately, it doesn't look like sanded caulk when dry, but rather resembles what you'd expect from thin silicon. It did not meet my expectations for "grout" in any way. This is not sanded "grout" in a caulking tube as I had imagined.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total garbage in my book. I spent a day pulling out my old caulk, cleaning the surface and placing tape down for a perfect job....like I've done many times before. Runny product like others have commented; I couldn't imagine not having tape down because I have know idea how you'd be able to tool it with losing complete control and smearing it all over the place. initially looked Okay but when I pulled the tape up, the caulk would peel up along the taped edge even though it was only on the wall for less than 2 minutes. job looked amateurish so I pulled it out. best part about the product was that it was a breeze to remove. never fully set up and had the consistency of plumbers putty I thought.

This product was exactly what I needed when the old cracked grout and previously applied silicone caulk failed on our countertop at the point where it meets the tile backsplash. This tile caulk color and texture blended perfectly with the original grout of the tile backsplash and also sealed better than silicone alone. It doesn’t crack, peel, shift, or breakdown. The sanded texture matches the grout texture. I used it also for small hairline cracks in the older grout as well. It is amazing. I have purchased several colors of this sanded caulk for different projects in our home and they are all perfect. Clean up is easy and so is application. Recommend.

Decided to leave a review after the 4th time having to remove and replace this caulk. We had remodeled 2 bathrooms using the same color grout, just made sense to use the same color caulk. The first use, I thought application error when it started to crack, mold, bubble and peel. After having to remove and replace 3 times, definitely a product quality issue. I am in the process of removing it a 4th time and replacing it with silicone. This product is not worth having to go through the whole process that goes with recaulking every 6 months!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything It Says It Is - Works Great Not sure what other reviewers saw online, because this is clearly represented to be sanded caulk in both the picture and the written description. Since buying my home 11 years ago, with a shower that has Polyblend bone colored grout between the tile, I have routinely used this product in the joint where the tile walls and tile shower flooring meet. It has always been a perfect color match, and the sanding makes it appear just like the grout lines once it cures. I'm an ordinary female homeowner and I found that, following the instructions, it applies easily with a caulk gun and smooths nicely with a damp finger (never used a tool, yet). If you make sure the surfaces are vey clean and dry when you apply it, it holds up very well, and is not too difficult to remove when it finally needs a redo.

Bought this caulk because I had used the simple grout premix for a fireplace surround and wanted caulk to match. The "natural gray" color blended nicely with my stone tile. I only had to caulk the inside edge that met up with the metal of the fireplace. I am fairly pleased with the results. Caulk was easy to use and clean up, I used painters tape on the fireplace and the tile to make cleaning off the excess easier (I highly recommend this method for any precision caulking job) Caulk filled the gap well and dried nicely. The only thing is, it's not quite the same color as the grout. It's close but not the same. Caulk appears more gray while grout has a little more tan tone to it (might have been due to my tile color) In my case you would never know because of the location of the caulk, but I could see it bothering a perfectionist like me if it was in a more noticeable location.

I applied it to the junction of the tile wall to the tiled floor of the shower. after 2 days it had not hardened! I then heated it with a hair dryer, and it finally hardened. After a year some caulk that dripped on the tube has remained soft.

The color palette online is misleading as well. Did not wind up using the caulk for its intended purposes. Hopefully, I'll be able to use it for another project.
