Questions & Answers

Is this a true gray color?

Asked by: Blessed
If it is like the Light Smoke I purchased, NO!!!. I bought the darker grout to match my tiles and it dried almost beige. I purchased a porcelain wood grain tile and the light grout just ruins the look I was trying to get. I guess now I will try to color it . Another step I wasn't counting on having to do.

Will this cure if it is covered with paper? I'd like to grout in the next few days, but I also need to sand my cabinet faces and want to protect the new grout from that dust. Do I just need to wait to sand?
Asked by: FirstTimer
It will dry under paper. I wouldn’t use plastic but, a rosin paper or canvas drop cloth.

Is grout suppose to be darker or lighter than the tlie?

Asked by: Petra
Personal preference. But most darker tiles have lighter grout to get the checkered look. The closer to the color of the tile, the less checkered it looks. If you go darker than the tile, the checkering becomes even more pronounced and the tiles look a little heavier. On a floor if the tile is light, with a little darker grout you will not have as much of a problem with the grout getting dirty and looking inconsistent in places from the dirt. But I wouldn't go too dark, maybe a medium gray. Grays are generally a good color for grout. Also, FYI although sanded grout is usually used for floors,, I wish we had used non sanded because our grout lines are smaller (1/8 - 3/16 inch) and the grout is cracking and coming out after only 2 years.

What is your most "pure" white colored grout?

I purchased and installed "Bright Snow White" porcelain tile, and I am not sure if your "Bright White" or your "Snow White" would be the best match. Is there a dramatic difference between the two? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Here is the link to the tile:http://www.homedepot.com/p/U-S-Ceramic-Tile-Bright-Snow-White-Brick-12-in-x-12-in-x-6-mm-Ceramic-Mosaic-Tile-U072-12M/203223650

My contractor used Bone #382, and it pretty much just looks like caulking.

No issues. One air pocket but he quickly filled it in with no blending issues. It looks great. I used a darker color since we're putting it in a rental. White or any light color will change to gray/dark gray anyways so might as well go with a gray up front :) Easy to clean off after applying the grout if you do it correctly

Before I decided to grout with truffle I wanted to test it on two pieces of tile. A dark brown tile and a lighter stone like tile. I read all the reviews and for $14.00 decided it was not worth it to tile my areas without seeing what the end result it. My finding is that it looks amazing and truffle brown if you are grouting a lighter piece of tile. If you are trying to match it to a dark brown or black tile the result is a light tan brown with a slight pinkish appearance. I have attached to photos as I wish someone did this when I was looking for brown grout. P.S. It does not turn gray if applied correctly, the only way it would is if you add way too much water to it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent results Always have excellent results with this grout brand. One problem however is that HD doesn't always sell matching sanded/non-sanded caulk to match the sanded/non-sanded grout color and checking online at other retailersleads me to believe perhaps the manufacturer doesn't produce both a sanded and non-sanded version of caulk for all its grout colors. If important recommend checking ahead of time to confirm both caulk and grout are available in the sanded/non-sanded color you want. Example here: chose non-sanded grout in Platinum color but could only find sanded caulk in Platinum color - apparently non-sanded caulk in Platinum color is not available.

After the first application it wound up with divots/small cracks so we went back over it a second time, this time mixing the grout with a sealer and it was fine. The color sample on the paper was different then the grout in a real application so I was glad our Home Depot had some real samples on display. We used the haystack color with white tiles. I was reluctant to use a shade of brown grout with white tiles but it turned out looking great. It's only been installed a week so hopefully it cleans well and doesn't crack with time.
