Questions & Answers

Is this a true gray color?

Asked by: Blessed
If it is like the Light Smoke I purchased, NO!!!. I bought the darker grout to match my tiles and it dried almost beige. I purchased a porcelain wood grain tile and the light grout just ruins the look I was trying to get. I guess now I will try to color it . Another step I wasn't counting on having to do.

Will this cure if it is covered with paper? I'd like to grout in the next few days, but I also need to sand my cabinet faces and want to protect the new grout from that dust. Do I just need to wait to sand?
Asked by: FirstTimer
It will dry under paper. I wouldn’t use plastic but, a rosin paper or canvas drop cloth.

No issues. One air pocket but he quickly filled it in with no blending issues. It looks great. I used a darker color since we're putting it in a rental. White or any light color will change to gray/dark gray anyways so might as well go with a gray up front :) Easy to clean off after applying the grout if you do it correctly

I thought it might dry to the grey that was indicated on the box. When it dried it was a mix of colors from the dark chocolate(almost black) to a light gray. It was splotchy all over the place. I only used it in a small closet because I was worried after it mixed so dark. I mixed per procedure with a paddle mixer and drill, so I know the mix was consistent. I threw the rest of the mix out and returned the other boxes to home depot. I bought a different brand of grout that was about the same color and it worked perfectly.

This could be because I'm new to grouting, but I followed the directions to the letter. This grout was easy to work with, but it is not consistent. It dried much lighter and much more uneven than expected. I was unable to grout our kitchen backsplash in one shot, so the places I overlapped the next day or fixed in a corner are darker than the places where there are no overlaps. It looks wet but it's dry and not matching to the rest. Again, this might be my bad technique, but you would think the same product would match itself. Go with a pre-mixed grout if you can. My Home Depot didn't have unsanded pre-mixed, and I'm sorry I went with this stuff.

After the first application it wound up with divots/small cracks so we went back over it a second time, this time mixing the grout with a sealer and it was fine. The color sample on the paper was different then the grout in a real application so I was glad our Home Depot had some real samples on display. We used the haystack color with white tiles. I was reluctant to use a shade of brown grout with white tiles but it turned out looking great. It's only been installed a week so hopefully it cleans well and doesn't crack with time.

POLYBLEND / OYSTER color is what I bought, I got white, I don't know what it is or why in the same grout one dry( thick as peanut butter) and one as less dry (thick as yogurt), both mixes have spots were the color is spot on and other places where it is yellow, than mostly white. The most water clean up I did is where it is yellow. I don't know what to buy now. I thought this stuff was made for years. How could they mess this up? I thought POLYBLEND was top of the line? Why is it that so many people are having the same issue. I've read reviews going back a few years.

I'm prepping my house to sell and re-grouted my kitchen counters with bright white Polyblend. I had never grouted before but still got great results with this product. The color is nice and white, and the grout dried hard and smooth. I applied SurfaceGard to seal 3 days later, and that worked great too. I hate this manufacturer's Fusion Pro grout (dissolves over time when exposed to water), but the Polyblend seems like a good product. I also used the matching caulk and had no problems. As a side note, I had sable Polyblend installed in a bathroom, and the tile guy had a terrible time with uneven color. He ended up having to recolor all the grout lines. It looks good now, but what a pain. I would steer clear of the darker colors of this grout.

First try: added EXACTLY the 8 oz. of water as prescribed, but mix was very thick and balled up quickly. Grout dried very crumbly. Scraped out the grout and stupidly gave Custom Building Products the benefit of the doubt and mixed a second batch with EXACTLY the 8 oz as prescribed. Now the batch was too runny. Fortunately, I did not grout the tile with this product. Bought a different brand and proceeded successfully. Custom Building Products needs to check their bag filling process because it is not consistent.
