Questions & Answers

after installation what color does it actually turn out to be? Dark black as shown or light grey?

Asked by: cat
Unfortunately people don't mix it correctly and then end up having issues with color OR they have too much mortar between joints and end up with a faded or off color. I've used this in three different areas of my house, the first being over a year old and the newest being just over a week old. All areas are still BLACK and it looks absolute amazing, i also have clean joints and mix is to with they recommend not what i think it should be.

I boought this due to it supposedly not needing sealing because, allegedly, it has polymer in it. Guys, as ordinary grout it's OK but if this grout has polymer in it then I'm the man in the moon. I'm 88 years old and I've probably laid more tiles than all the Home Depot corporate buyers have had hot meals. After grouting a shower pan and giving it the ample time to hydrate and dry, on first use this grout was soaked (but not softened). Unless I got a bad bag it seems to me HD has joined the race to the bottom in quality so as to satisfy Wall Street's thirst for profits and HD's executive's greed for high pay, bonuses and stock options. My advice to would be buyers of this grout is don't. But if you do buy it then before you do the main job is to do a test patch first, let it hydrate, dry and then test it. If it soaks up water take it back and get a different make.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Color completely wrong The product itself is fine. The only problem is the color. I ordered onyx green and it is a medium grey. I installed black river rock (small) above the master bathroom shower enclosure and needed green grout to match the other colors already completed in the remodel. The grout in the bag is very green and When I mixed it up it looked dark grey/green. I knew it would lighten once dried but never would have guessed the green would not show at all. I installed each rock one at a time and am not going to tear it all down and start over. I'll live with the wrong color as the final color is not too bad but just not what I wanted. I now realize I should have done a small section but after taking 3 months to put up the rocks(I only worked on it a few days a week due to my schedule) I got impatient. Overall, the product is good but I consider color a major factor when selecting grout and this is why I give it a rating of one. If color doesn't matter to you, I rate this a five.

The color was perfect when wet but as it dried the color faded to a light grey. I called customer service and was told the reason the color lightened was due to efflorescence. When you wet the grout it turns back to the original color and to get the grey off you have to "remove the efflorescence". That was all well and good and I followed their instructions to remove it with a grout haze remover. It didn't change the color at all but it cleaned my floor really well. They are sending me a free grout renewer so that's nice but it would have been much better if the grout stayed the color is was meant to. If you want to spend an extra 5 hours or so fixing the mistakes of the grout due to no fault of your own feel free to use this product. I know I will be staying far FAR away from this grout in the future. I used sable brown grout and have pictures of the parts that dried okay and the parts that turned grey. Hopes this helps some people out there.

We purchased 30+ bags of this grout in Linen from multiple Home Depot stores last summer (2018) to grout our 750 Sq. Ft. pebble-stone tile patio. Since the qty needed was not available in a single lot number we combined equal amounts of each lot number and mixed per instructions using chilled distilled water and applied it to the patio per the instructions. One issue we found immediately was color consistency. Despite our best efforts color variance is obvious. This season we decided to add an enhancer/sealer. While cleaning in prep for the sealer we noticed multiple fine cracks in many areas of the patio. We've tried contacting the manufacturer via their 24 hr response page asking about possible causes and corrections but they have not yet replied. We are now in 'limbo' not knowing what to do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unsatisfactory Product and Customer Service. This product was installed on 600 sq feet by a seasoned professional... The product had excessive efflorescent and maybe 50% of the darkness as any of the color chips once installed. During the installation contacted the mfg for advice, they blamed the water... After testing various amounts of water as well as using only distilled water to mix and sponge finish with zero changes to the outcome, we completed the project. Now we are faced with spending the time and $'s to acid wash the area... not an easy chore, as it is outdoors, and surrounded by a 50 year old manicured garden and we will need to be 100% confident that there is zero spillage... The cost of this step will exceed the cost of the product. Because of the lack of concern by the manufacturers customer service and completely unacceptable performance of the product, I will personally and professionally never use or rely on any products from Custom Building Products. I will also openly recommend that others avoid using their products based upon my personal experience.

We used the Polyblend Sanded Grout Delorean Grey for a shower re-tile project. The color came out just as expected. By "we" I mean, we hired a professional to do the tile and grouting. I've seen a few reviews saying the dried color wasn't what was on the bag or the color chart, sometimes even coming out white. I disagree, ours came out exactly as expected. After reading those aforementioned reviews, I asked our contractor about the color and mentioned my concerns over the dried color being "too light"..His reply was, and I quote, "those people didn't mix it right or just didn't know what they were doing, trust me, it will be the grey you are hoping for" ... Low and behold, it came out perfect. It contrasts perfectly with the white tile, just like we wanted. My advice would be, don't cheap out and take it on yourself if you aren't absolutely sure of what you're doing, hire a pro that does it for a living, I'm sure glad we did !

This grout is very hard to work with since it dries hard to the face of the tile quickly which requires you to start washing the floor immediately after grouting and the grout joint is also not set up enough and you end up washing too much grout out of the joint. When it dries it has like a white look on the surface except where it dries hard to the face of the tile. I think water floats the polyblend stuff out of it which is a real problem since you have to wash a tiled floor after grouting. The white look to the grout joint is worse the wetter the area you washed. Good luck with washing your floor and not getting it too wet to prevent this from happening to the grout joint.

What I really appreciate about these products is that they have many color options available. However, the selection in the store is very limited so plan on ordering on line and giving yourself plenty of time to receive the items. I almost had a heart attack when I realized that my order was not sceduled to arrive in a timely manner, it was supposed to take two weeks. Uggggh! That didn't happen, it actually arrived on time and I was elated. Considering the company is located only an hour from my home, I was hoping that they could do better than two weeks and they delivered! I'm assuming that everything went well with this product because I now have a beautiful floor and tiled wall completed by my contractor. I am very happy and would definitely recommend purchasing this product from Home Depot because the price is phenomenal and I know that if there is a problem, HD will find a solution hassle free. Thanks HD!
