            Great product
Very simple to use and the instructions don’t leave you questioning how to do any of it. We used it on our backer board for a 36x36 shower around 8 foot tall and had about a quarter of the bucket left after two coats. We just used paint brushes and rollers. It cleaned off the brushes just fine. Don’t be afraid to glob it on; it’s more like pudding than paint. Great product.

redgard liquid membrane waterproofing - install properly!
redgard liquid membrane waterproofing... READ THE MANUFACTURE INSTALL PROCESS!! on wet areas (showers etc) the first coat should be a watered down 3 parts water to 1 part redgard, installed and allowed to dry, then add THIN coats, not thick wet coats, do so in multiple recoats AFTER each coat has dried completely. the range is 20mils to max 40mils thick (that is NOT milliliters... it is MILS). This stuff sticks to most anything and creates a flexible seamless membrane that is waterproof if installed as per directions. even tested it on a cardboard box interior... 4 coats; then 2 inches of water... after 4 days no leakage! It works when done properly!!

If the smell is any indication of its effectiveness this stuff ain’t messing around. Totally toxic but seemed to be very effective in creating a seal on my durarock tub surround. When I did my last tile job this stuff wasn’t around, I figured I better try it out. Not sure I’ve ever needed moisture control in a tub surround go so far as to affect the durarock but hey better safe than sorry. I found using a fat brush the easiest for applying because it’s so thick. I was able to do two coats and still have some left over.

What was done wrong? Should it crack?
This is the finishing of a handyman’s work. Why did it crack? If it cracks are you supposed to put more layers on top? I’m confused why this doesn’t look like others pictures posted.

                Good for DIYers
After much review we opted to use Redgard for a DIY bathroom remodel instead of a Schluter membrane (which was much more expensive). The Redgard was easy and straightforward to use. The first coat was sucked up A LOT by the cement board, which made it time consuming to do. The second coat went on much faster and smoother than the first. Definitely recommend using a combination of a roller and a brush, as sometimes the roller won’t actually roll becaise of the consistency of the Redgard, which is a very thick, pudding-like consistency. The area pictured is just under 80 sqft and we used 1gal to complete it. I believe the guidelines on the packaging are 1 gal = 2 coats for 55 sqft. So it stretched a little in our experience, but after watching many videos it seems that it's better for it to be less thick than more thick as the membrane can crack while drying if it’s applied too thickly.

Sure there are less expensive options out there but why cheap out on such an important step? Redgard will not let you down and the coverage is great, one gallon was enough to do our entire hall bath including the shower surround, the floor and the walls.
