SimpleSet White 1 Gal. Pre-Mixed Thin-Set Mortar

I bought this thinset for my 12x12 ceramic floor tiles, applied as instructed. On the second day I noticed the tiles would still flex and lifting them, I found the mortar was still wet. I placed a fan and dehumidifier on the hallway where the tiles were set. They were placed on wonderboard which sat on wood subfloor. After a full week, the premix did not set, was still as wet as the day I put it down! I had to strip it all off and go with normal mortar. This was a waste of two weekends and over 100 dollars! I'll be calling the manufacturer to try and get a refund. I'm never buying this junk again! Note that in the photo we used the grey premix mortar and the when that ran out we switched to the white. Both did not cure at all!

This mortar didn't seem to be mixed very smoothly. Took a lot of work keeping it from falling off of the trial but ot does look good in the end. I would still recommend. I'm new to DIY

It is nice that it is premixed but had to end up buying 3 buckets it doesn't go very far. It is only for small jobs in the gallon bucket.

Im not sure what exactly all the complaints are about, I used 1.5 buckets of these 3 1/2 gallon premixed thin-set to build a 4x15 ft ledger stone wall in my den rennovation. It couldnt have been any easier and my wall is rock solid (no pun intended. I removed drywall and added cement backerboard, and the whole thing was a breeze. Only complaint is that it is pricey compared to the powder thin-set/mortar, but if you dont want to have to mess around with mixing and trying to get the proper consistency (especially someone who doesnt work in masonary,) then its worth the few extra bucks in my opinion.

This worked great on my small project of tiling the stair risers on my entry steps. Convenient and easy. Looked great when completed.

I used to for small floor tiles in my bathroom and wall tiles. Installed the tiles following directions, let it set and checked them after a few days of drying. ALL THE MORTAR WAS STILL WET! I had to pull up all the tiles and redo it with a Mapei thin set which worked like a charm. I will be returning this garbage and contacting the manufacturer for a full refund.

Product is very easy to use and this size is perfect for small areas to be tiled. Read directions, watch some videos on installation and it will go very smoothly. Tip - not to put too much down as to making the thin set seep out between the tiles, as this is what grout is for. The thin set is to be like a peanut butter like glue thickness to set the tile.

Mortar washed just the surrounding bricks within the grout lines and it worked like a charm! Highly recommend. It dries fast too!

This thin-set was easy to use and stayed usable, with the lid back on tight, for several applications. It was perfect for a social distancing art project, using old chimney pipe and beach glass.

I am only giving this review 4-stars due to being unsure of long-term results. This reflects application up to the point of grouting only. Please know, I have a construction background, but have not specifically laid tile myself, this is the first time doing so. This product was suggested to me by a HD employee in the tile department at the time of purchase (I did little research on tile adhesion products prior to shopping and was just looking for something less messy then mixing from a cement bag product. This product seemed far simpler (however very pricey) over its messy counterpart of cement based bag mortar. I am not a contractor, just a DIY'er doing his own project in his home, and striving to do the best job possible with what knowledge I've acquired, online as well as Youtube. I only came to research these reviews on HB site to see what I could glean for more specific dry times for 24"x6" wood-look ceramic tiles using this SimpleSet product. Seems Custom Building Products does not give specific charted dry times for different sized LFT applications, only giving limited advice about "larger tiles", stating that dry times may be considerably more for larger tile sizes (no specifics at all based on a tile's actual size, very vague actually). 24" tiles are indeed much longer then the width, but one should consider they are 6" wide, and should have adequate drying space as would a simpler "6x6" tile (?), ...or could I be wrong? Anyway this is why I am here now. I just used this product on my log cabin project and had zero issues. As a matter of fact the only complaint I would have is the mortar starts to dry very quickly, and I would not dare to apply more than 2 tiles at a time before washing my trowel tools off completely as well (if allowed further time it is near impossible to clean this stuff off your tools). Yes I am new and slower then most professionals, ....but my point is this product performed great for me. These tiles set within a few hours and would not budge, not even fractionally after being walked on. I simply do not understand the poor reviews. After allowing overnight setting I can walk safely over the tiles with no issue whatsoever, ....and no way are you prying these tiles off - they are not going anywhere (I just tried an attempt to do so but they are solid and firm). And since I have no adequate information about how long I should actually allow for dry time, I am giving it an allotted 72 hours from the last row I placed. This mortar is already well set, so giving it that 72 hours seems safe enough from my experiences with my own project. I will say (that others have not disclosed) is that I used James Hardi Backer Board as an underlayment and securely fastened to my subfloor with Versabond cement thinset, along with screws. I properly taped the seams and patched them in as instructed. The SimpleSet mastic seems to near instantly dry against this cement board product, and after tile application needs to be scraped and cleared-off around the edges immediately (or its very difficult to remove). Regardless, my tiles have secured quite nicely. I am very confused now with reading all these negative reviews. I do live in Great Falls MT in a dryer climate (though not high desert), and use an air conditioner, which may contribute to my success, but after reading these reviews I think I give more credit to the use of cement backer board - just my newb-level opinion, whatever that might be worth. See the tiny kitchen photo below revealing half of my tile project complete (ready now to applying the grout). I will be doing so today with very little concern at this point for whether the mastic has dried - these tiles are not going anywhere anytime soon. So far I am very happy with my progress, and also this project. Would I push hard to recommend it - not really, only because of the other poor reviews, but unfortunately for the masses this particular project seems to be one of few that has gone well without complaint. If for any reason I have issue, I will be sure to update this review.
