Screw on.
You may need a screw driver to hold the assembly in place while you turn the spout. It will be slow but process but eventually enough of the assembly (plastic holding portions) will be exposed making it easier to unscrew. You need to be careful so as not to bend or cut the plumbing during this removal.
No.
No - instructions indocate it's for 2-3 inch protrusion
Ok
doesn't matter if the lever is not stopping the water flow to go to the shower, replace the spout, screw on or slip on.
Yes, there is a standard dimension female threaded connector inside. But it may be cheaper/easier to buy one that doesn’t have the universal adapter and the diverter if you don’t need it.
Caulk ... use a backer rod.
There is a plastic piece that goes on the pipe and then screws on - 1 inch might be too short for the screw to grab
It is largely hollow. At the far end of the faucet, near the spout there is a threaded fitting on the wall side. On the spout side, there is a plastic bit connected to the knob that slides up & down to divert water between the faucet and the shower head.
