A: The information supplied is insufficient to definitively answer your question. My first is answer is yes it would fit as this is a universal design that fits most common bathtubs. You state the tub is 20 inches. Is this measured on the outside from floor to the upper edge? Is this a standard bathtub, not a Jacuzzi or unusual shape such as a heart?. Because all of the joints (connections) of this drain kit are adjustable over several inches, it will essentially fit any standard rectangular or oval tub. And if your tub is 20 inches in height over all, this kit will easily fit the space between the drain and the vent.

Q:What are the exact dimensions of this, i.e., height between drain and overflow, distance between ...

Answer This Question
A: Because this is an adjustable kit (universal), exact dimensions are not available or applicable. Both the drain piece and the vent are designed as slip joints.
The main drain (tail piece) is threaded both from the vent piece and in the bottom where the tub drain meet it. Those 2 pieces use a corresponding nut just as any conventional PVC type drain pipe like you might find under a kitchen sink.
Because of this design, the tub drain can range 6 3/4 inches from tub drain center to the seat in the down pipe, down to 5 1/2 inches (without alteration) but could be as little as 3 1/2 inches. The vent piece can be from 12 high from vent center of tub to as little as 6 inches from tub vent center down. It's shortest would be 10 inches without alteration. Both can be cut to shorten if necessary. And in some cases these measurements could be altered yet again depending on exactly how yours exits from under the tub. Typically the drain assembly exit straight down to the trap. But in some cases it may exit straight out from the tub before entering the trap. In the event yours exits straight from the tub before entering a trap, could make it necessary to reverse the tail piece which would change the above measurements to some degree.

Q:Is there a way to remove hair?
by|Aug 13, 2019

Answer This Question
A: There's always a way to remove hair. But this kit is a bit unique as the stopper is removable. The stopper rests atop a shaft made into the tail piece and held by a Phillips head screw. By holding the stopper up you could insert a standard Phillips screw driver below the stopper to loosen the screw and remove the stopper and easily access the inside of the drain. You need to be careful when doing this, to not loosen the screw to the point it falls out of the stopper and down the drain. Fortunately it is a standard size screw and is readily available should you drop it.
It should be noted that in most cases, the drain trap is where you would clean the drain from. Typically it would be located in the basement directly under the tub or in some homes within the crawl space. In slab homes or on a second floor, it might be located inside an adjacent closet access panel behind the tub. This is good info both for clearing hair from the trap or retrieving said screw should it fall into the pipe.

A: You can go one of two routes: 1) use a drain cleaner like Drain-O or Mr. Plumber or 2) the Home Depot sells various drain accessories that will catch hair. I have used both the chemical approach and the hair catcher approach and both work well. If you are on a septic system, I would recommend against the chemical approach.

A: Thank you for choosing Danco products. Hair can be removed with a mini plumbers snake. Simply pull cover off of the Danco Lift & Twist part #51933 and insert snake about 2" in and pull back out and hair will follow.

This is an excellent product and the perfect replacement for the old linkage style drain stopper....
This is an excellent product and the perfect replacement for the old linkage style drain stopper. Though still used in many applications today, linkage drain stoppers for your bath tub have always come with certain disadvantages. They can become clogged easily, the linkage can become gummed with hair and soap scum and they sometimes lose their adjustment or the linkage itself can become bent. To remedy any of these issues requires disassembly of the tub vent cap and carefully snaking out the stopper and linkage for cleaning or possibly replacement. Mine had become too worn for re installation and we had been using a rubber stopper until I could get time to replace the drain, stopper and vent with an upgrade. I chose the Danco drain stopper kit initially for it's value. But it's also very good quality as the stopper and vent cap are nicely chromed. The kit consists of top quality PCV pipe that is easy to fit and of the best quality of PCV available. Installation is quite simple for even the newest apprentice. Clean up and prep before hand will probably take longer than the new installation and can be completed with just a few tools. I installed mine with a pair of adjustable pliers and a Phillips screwdriver. In the pictures provided you'll find I first dry fitted the kit to make sure all the parts needed were provided. You can also see the old arrangement in the tub along with the rubber stopper we were using. I didn't want to include a picture of the old linkage I removed since most wouldn't have wanted to see it. In the pictures of the dry fit, notice the PVC pipe connectors use winged nuts and typically can be tightened sufficiently by hand. Once the pipe is fitted to the tub and drain openings (don't tighten the pipe nuts yet) it's simply a matter of securing the rubber gasket to the vent pipe. You can now install the supplied flange with 2 retaining screws to secure the vent pipe to the vent opening (don't over tighten). Then simply install the chrome vent cap using the 2 chrome screws. Once this is complete you can now install the drain flange and stopper. A rubber gasket is supplied and is placed on top of the drain beneath the tub line. The drain flange is then screwed into the drain pipe. A line of plumbers caulk or silicone sealant should be placed on the bottom of the chrome flange to prevent any chance of leakage. You'll need to clean any excess when completed. The chrome flange simply screws into the drain piece and can be carefully tightened snugly with the adjustable pliers. Again this step doesn't require a great amount of force as too much force can mar the chrome or scratch the tub finish if the pliers slip so don't over do it. Lastly, hand tighten the 2 pipe wing nuts and your done. Later if you need to clean the drain opening, is only a matter of a single Phillips screw to remove the stopper. This kit is the simplest kit available in my opinion and will last a very long time.
