How long does the copper pipe have to extend from the wall in order for this product to work?

Is the screw suppose to breakthrough the indentation on the adaptor

Asked by: Zooch45
Yes, that's what locks it onto the copper spout

How long of threaded pipe?

What length of threaded pipe will this work with to screw the spout directly onto the the threaded pipe (not use the o ring slip on tye)?
Asked by: Riley
this does NOT screw onto the pipe. It slips on and then slips off with water pressure.

Missing Part?

The instructions for Fig A. "1/2" Cooper Pipe Slip Connection" talks about an adapter (A) in step C. My package did not contain such an adapter and I suspect that is why I am seeing a leak when I install this replacement spout. Is the adapter an item that I need to buy separately? If so, what is the product name/part #?
Asked by: FrustratedHomePlumber
the adapter is the long white piece in the spout. This piece unscrews so you can install on a long or short threaded nipple.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk! Did not stay on even after tightening the set screw ! Don't waste your time! Do it right, measure, sweat, and use a threaded adapter!

I was hoping the other 50% of the reviews that were saying this worked great were right. However, the design is completely flawed. You can't line up the plastic holes with the threads and tighten everything at the same time, it just didn't line up. Poor design unfortunately.

The retaining ring in the photo clamps onto a plastic internal sleeve that's supposed to provide a friction fit if you have a copper stub-in. That only holds for a little while. Eventually, water pressure forced the spout completely off the pipe and it flew across the bathtub. Retightening the setscrew did nothing. Eventually I had to drill a new hole in the plastic (upstream of the O-ring seal) so that the setscrew could engage the pipe itself. That worked, but it was a pain to have to modify the product just to get it to stay in place. Buy something else.

We've done many home repairs and are experienced using tools, following vague instructions, etc. so this should have been an easy quick replacement. I would not recommend this product. Thankfully Home Depot has a great return policy.

I have been working on installing this tub spout for 3 hours, installing, taking it apart, re-installing, then taking it apart again. The problem is when screwing the spout onto the "slip pipe" (not sure what it's called). When doing so it never tightens and the collar on the "slip pipe" doesn't allow enough space to screw the spout on. It rubs and then just catches onto the spout and turns the "slip pipe" with each turn of the spout. It's very loose. Returning this garbage. Would rate a zero if I could. Give me something that works! It's replacing Moen which your package says it does. But not so well in my bathroom.

I loved the look and wanted to change over to brushed nickel. Unfortunately, this was hard to assemble, and could not be made not to leak. The little black piece is not useful and never explained. I eventually had to have a plumber come and repair the damaged copper spout from trying to get this on tight enough. And I had to stick with a chrome, because getting a true Moen part instead of this fake "universal" part meant it would have had to be ordered and I could not wait for that. So I got a true Moen spout, and it screwed right on, no problems. Significantly heavier metal. The old one lasted 40 years. Maybe the new one will too.
