Customer Reviews

3.0 9 oz. White Advanced Window, Door, Trim and Siding Sealant is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 173.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not paintable. I was thrilled to see what I thought was a premium, high quality, caulk that was also clear. I was very willing to pay a premium price to get a premium product. The application went well. It flowed well, and made a great looking job. I waited until the next day (24 hours later). I painted. The label on the caulking said to use high quality acrylic latex paint. I used Home Depot's own "high quality, 100% acrylic, latex paint". It doesn't stick to the caulking. It makes lines of no coverage, sort of like beading up. After the paint dried, the slightest rubbing takes it off. I called the number on the tube, and DAP said it shouldn't do that. Try wiping first with rubbing alcohol. I took an area that wasn't yet painted, and wiped with rubbing alcohol. Same problem. Now I need to spend hours trying to remove all of this high-priced caulk, replace with some other paintable caulk, and any of this that remains with something that'll make paint stick. I don't know what that might be.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A REAL HASSLE TO USE The sealant material itself is good quality definitely and that's not my complaint. The REAL problem with this stuff is that it's super hard to get it out of the canister. I cut off the whole dang threaded tip under the nozzle so the opening was basically a 1/2" in diameter. Then I screwed on the nozzle and cut an opening slightly larger than 1/4 inch. I had to wrap my gun with old rags to provide some cushioning against the pressure it took to get some of the sealant out. It was effing ridiculous. I'm 6' and 230 and I have a rugged grip but this stuff was such a pain in the butt to get it to come out. It made the job difficult and I ended up having to cut the opening larger at the base several times which got more junk on my hands, clothes, and other tools. I don't recommend this to anyone. Just use the other DAP window sealant - that stuff goes on and comes out nice and easy. This is good high quality material but it's like squeezing sand out instead of sealant. Oh well.

Used around a quartz bathroom vanity top where "crystal clear" vs just foggy clear was important. In less than a month the caulk was turning yellow, costing much more in labor than the lost value of the caulk. The bathroom was a guest bathroom without a window or much use. So this was not due to sunlight, cleaning products, moisture etc. In fact I had kept the used tube of caulk in a cabinet and when looking in the bottom of the used tube the residue of caulk around the inside of the tube had also turned yellow. I would absolutely stay away from this product, even if it was just from a bad batch it was a total disappointment and not worth the risk of ruining a project. I see other reviews now with the same issue of the caulk turning yellow. The photos are from 4 months after installation, before starting the task of removing the caulk to replace with another product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pricey but uniquely good Last summer I was building a solar air heater and needed to caulk all the seams of the box. I needed something that would make a strong permanent bond, remain flexible and wouldn't shrink when subjected to large daily temperature swings (0F to +140F), and could be painted over the same day as applied. I tend to prefer PU caulks and they would work except having to wait 7 days to paint. So I looked for an alternative. I called DAP customer service, explained my needs, and they told me the 3.0 would easily do the job. So I got a tube and they were right. This is an excellent caulk/sealant for the most demanding applications. They advertise it as a siliconized caulk but it also has PU in it. Anyway, it is expensive stuff, and it may be overkill for some tasks, but this is an excellent caulk that really does what it says. It's the closest thing to a "perfect caulk" I've found yet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fails in less than a year I bought this product to seal around a window on our motor home. I read all the reviews here, and the folks that love it really love it. Most of the negative reviews are about how hard it is to get out of the tube, which is very true. But I was willing to struggle with that and pay a premium price for a superior product. It worked and I sealed an exterior mirror as well as the window. Checked it a few months later and it looked clear and I put it out of my mind. Well roll forward 9 months to our first rain and the product has COMPLETELY decayed - it must lack any UV resistance as the MH is parked outside. It turned yellow and cracked and chunks had fallen out and yes the inside of the MH was soaking wet. What really throws me is I was trying to just wipe the wet surface so I could put some tape on for an emergency repair and the caulk remaining is now like goo! That's right like the water is now dissolving it !!! Bottom line is I'm going back to a good polyurethane or butyl sealant - this product is JUNK!

I bought this product and got home, loaded the tube and it was so hard to squeeze out (almost bent my caulking gun)..... then there was an air pocket that took up like 3 inches of caulking. I suspect that somehow air got into this caulking tube. I am not saying this product is bad, just this tube was faulty. Home Depot was understanding when I took it back for a refund.
