Customer Reviews

33 1 gal. White Ready-to-Use Window Glazing (2-Pack) is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from best all around glazing I am restoring 39 windows in my 1936 colonial. Way too cost prohibitive to hire out. I've been at it for 2 years; my only experience, I am a lawyer by trade, is with my own windows. I have found DAP 33 "easy" to use and there is a uniform consistency from can to can. Simply work it in your hand, apply and cut it with whatever knife you can work with. I keep a little linseed oil on hand and occasionally lightly coat my knife if I find it dragging. It took a couple windows to improve my technique, but I can do a 6 over 6 in an hour or so. I tried Sher Wms glazing (I use their paint), but too sticky and much harder to work with. Bottom line, if you have some experience, this product works as advertised.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Online instructions and tips would be nice On line instructions and tips to use product would be nice. Print on tub is difficult to read being both small and blurred.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product need patients to do a good job At first when I was trying to figure how to use this product I got easily frustrated and didn't want to do the job anymore. Although I kept on going and was able finish 10 windows in 3 days. I found it easier to use the putty with latex gloves on because the putty doesn't stick to your hands and it helps you smooth it out. At first I was using a wide putty knife but that didn't work good because it was hard to work in the corners and places like that so I bought the tiniest one they had probably 5cm wide and went to work and it turned out great by the end in my opinion for a first time user. I found when I left the putty in the sun it made it stickier and easier to smooth out. Dry time on the container says 7 to 14 days so you have to be patient with this product. After 3 days of sun about 20 - 28 degrees celius its has a harder top layer but is still soft.Overall I liked this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Glazing a mushy mess! I used Dap 33 Window Glazing on 3 smaller, 3 pain windows. The glaze was easy to work with and went on nicely. The problem is that it never dried at all. The windows sat inside my living room of my home to dry for 3 weeks and barely dried at all. The heat is on in my home and there is no humidity in the air. After the 3 weeks passed I carefully applied an oil based paint. After applying the paint it seamed as though the window glaze got even softer and the oil based paint doesn't even dry now. I now have 3 windows with mushy window glaze and wet paint.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Will this ever cure? applied this product over 2 months ago and it still has not cured enough to paint. I will use a different product in the future.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Formula needs improvement This is the only glazing putty available in my local stores(Canada). I have no choice but to use it, unless I mail order non-Dap glazing putty from the US, which becomes cost prohibitive. In contrast to a traditional linseed oil putty, Dap(in the tub) is okay ? I found the consistency to be workable, and after some experience and YouTube tutorials my results were acceptable. BUT - as others have said - this product takes far too long to properly cure. I used it on a foyer door, so it was exposed to cooler air, and it took at least 6 weeks to cure. I glazed a sash window which has been sitting inside during the fall weather. After 10 days it has barely skinned over. I have tried two brands of traditional linseed oil putty. Both were skinned over and hardened enough to paint within a week, even in moderate fall temperatures with cool nights. Dap, I hope you will improve this product's formula. The very long cure time is a real deficit that causes many people who have used it before to avoid using it again. The price point is good, it doesn't smell terrible, it is widely available - but the curing time needs immediate improvement. Hire a new chemist, take a look at traditional linseed oil putty formulas, sell a quick cure version. Just DO SOMETHING to make this better !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Like flour and water Had a difficult time applying it, possibly it was "old stock" the consistency was like flour and water and did not adhere well to the glass or oil base primer. I installed to 10 X 32' panes in a door with it. Comes back off very easy regardless of the pressure I used to apply it and it is very soft. I am in my 70's and have done this many times but possibly I missed something. It did get the job done but took three times as long as normal. I hope it sets up a little so I can paint it before the cold weather comes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 6 month dry time I've been glazing windows for 6 years now and I'm tired of hanging sashes taking them out later to paint. it's like the job is never done.
