Q:No Cap
by|Mar 19, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. There is no cap (for resealing) provided on any of DAP's larger cartridge sized packaging (caulks, sealants, adhesives). For resealing, DAP offers a reusable DAP CAP (sold separately). As a work-around, a small piece of plastic wrap or food grade plastic bag can be secured onto the tip with a rubber band (be sure to squeeze any excess air out before making the seal with the rubber band). Should you have additional questions or require additional guidance, please feel free to contact DAP Technical Customer Service at 888-327-8477.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP ALEX Painter's Caulk (general purpose caulk) is designed for use where low to moderate joint movement is expected. For applications where higher joint movement is expected, we would recommend the use of softer/more flexible sealants such as DAP ALEX FLEX, DAP DYNAFLEX 230 or DAP EXTREME STRETCH. Should you have any questions or wish to discuss this, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  Hi NewbieDIY, I would strongly recommend that you consider not using this product and instead utilize DAP Dynaflex 230, sold right here at Home Depot. Baseboards and crown molding expand and contract when levels of humidity change in the home and thus you need a caulk that will also expand and contract to prevent cracking. The Dynaflex is an elastomeric caulk, which means it does just that. It is strong enough to be used outdoors and handles exposure to water and dirt very well. You can also checkout DAP Dynaflex Ultra as an option. Caulk is like paint. The more you pay, usually, the better the product and results will be. At less than 2 bucks, this painters caulk has always let me down, professionally. The Dynaflex line has always left a wonderful result. Good luck!

      Q:is this for pvc
      by|Mar 15, 2021

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. While DAP ALEX Painter's Caulk will bond to PVC/CPVC, these materials can exhibit movement in excess of the product flexibility performance. For this type of material, a more flexible product such as DAP DYNAFLEX 230 or DAP EXTREME STRETCH would typically be recommended. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you about your project and to provide a recommendation for the most appropriate product.

        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. Providing that the temperate in the application area does not exceed ~150F., the use of a general-purpose caulk/sealant such as ALEX Painter's would be appropriate. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  This is some of the cheapest 'dollar store' caulk available. It frequently cracks, shrinks significantly, and does not tolerate movement of the materials during change of the seasons when humidity causes building materials to shrink/expand. Please do yourself a favor and upgrade to DAP's Dynaflex 230 elastomeric caulk/sealant. It will flex, accepts paint well, and is much more durable than this below entry level product. Home Depot sells the Dynaflex and it comes in multiple colors as well.

Seals Home Exterior Gaps, Accepts Paint
Used a number of tubes of this during a recent home exterior painting job to seal gaps and interfaces between trim and roof in hopes of keeping spiders and other critters away. Caulk was easy to work with and smooth by hand after initial application. Airless sprayer painted over and latex paint seems to be adhering well.

            Buy a better product
Totally low quality I caulked the same joints like 3 times and the cracks keep coming back, i have used this product on warm temperature inside no problem no cracks sometimes. now on cold weather doing interior work it keeps cracking, and my walls don’t move to crack the caulking because if they where moving all the drywall tape was going to be damaged

              Response from DAPProductExpertSep 3, 2020
Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP ALEX Painter’s Acrylic Latex Caulk. Based on your commentary regarding "cracking" during the initial drying phase, it would likely indicate that application site was subject to movement/instability prior to the product reaching full performance and/or that insufficient amount product was applied to the joint. Joints that are prone to experience significant expansion/contraction forces may require higher performance products, such as DAP DYNAFLEX 230 or DYNAFLEX ULTRA. These types of more specialized elastomeric joint sealants offer several times the amount of flexibility offered by DAP Painter’s Acrylic Latex Caulk. Because you did not provide any details regarding your experience, such as application surfaces, bead size, temperature, humidity or any information regarding your application technique, it is difficult to provide you with a more detailed response in this format. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you about your experience and to discuss alternate product options. this is much better than the Alex Plus that has silicone, because it is much easier to work with and does not shrink. But, in wet conditions, for example in my architectural fence cap, it loses its bond.
