I have broken more fingernails (at $25 a manicure) trying to open the spackle container. Is there any way your team of highly educated packaging engineers could come up with an easier way to open the container?

Common sense would tell you to try to use something like a knife, when you begin to start to feeling pain in your nail.

Can aplied Stain and varnish over DryDex

Asked by: Car777
Test it to see if you like the way it looks. Usually, the application of stain is with the intent to enhance the grain. Since DryDex has no grain, it can't restore missing grain. However, an artistic person could try his/her hand at creating a faux grain with several techniques found on the internet.

Can this product be used for leaking holes that i have on my cealing?

Asked by: Manuel
I do not recommend this product for anything overhead - it drips out of holes and does not bond well.

I purchased this, as well as the same "DryDex" product in a tube style because I had some deeper cracks I thought would be better to repair using the tube. I also thought that the color changing aspect would help, indicating when the product had dried in the deeper cracks. However, other than the color change which indicates when the product is dry, and works exactly as it should, as well as a tube style option, there were no other outstanding features. This product is too firm, not as pastie as typical Spakling, and almost gum like, which makes it difficult to work with compared to normal Spakling. The tube style was extremely difficult to squeeze out because of the firmness. I think I would have been much better off with normal Spakling and just waiting extra time to be sure that the product was dry, I think the application and results would have been better. If you MUST have the color changing feature, or Spackle in a tube, this is a good option for you, but know that the consistency is much firmer than typical Spakle, and this extra firmness might not be desirable in your case as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This was fantastic! I used this product for several uses. In the bathroom to repair where a towel bar was ripped out by my four year old, a hole where a door was opened too hard and the handle went through the wall, and screw holes from shelves that were removed. This product worked great for all of the purposes. I used a metal infused mesh for the larger holes and this product went on smoothly and evenly. It was definitely thick enough for the purpose, not at all runny. The only reason that I didn't give it five stars is because I could not understand by the packaging if I could paint directly on it after I applied or if I had to use primer first. After sanding and wiping down, it still has a powder grit finish so I primed it first and it worked like a charm. Also, it goes on smooth and I have a orange peel wall. I took the curved edge of a paperclip and carved orange peel markings in the product after it dried and it matched the wall completely after paint. Very pleased with the results!

Normally I am very happy with DAP products - this product is the exception. It is the worst DAP product I have ever purchased. The only positive feature is the pink to white transition indicator, but even that doesn't seem to indicate product is 100% dry. This stuff has too low a viscosity, drips out of joints applied to, doesn't stick well, apparently is too heavy, takes an inordinate amount of time to dry, shrinks and cracks, and when dry, tends to be "spongy." One positive - it is easy to clean up. I almost never return products but this time I feel so strongly that I will burn the extra gas to bring it back. I don't even care if I get my money back, I just don't want this stuff around any of my jobs.

I have a whole 5 gallon bucket of compound in the basement, but I needed to patch a small hole in the wall, so I tried this for convenience. Works well, the pink indicator is like the ceiling paint you can buy. I did find this to be a bit softer than regular compound, so don't go crazy sanding it. Minus a star, because the lid is hard to get a good seal. I had to hammer the top to get a good seal. A lot of the ones in the store had loose lids. Other than, works well, easy to finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed to fill some holes above my bathroom window. ... Needed to fill some holes above my bathroom window. This product was very simple to use, went on easily with either a putty knife or with a wet finger. It was pink while applying and was white when dry. It worked so well with the first application that I then used it to fill in some holes in the den. Once again, everything was done easily the first application and I did not have to go back to "redo" anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like that this productd turns white when dried. ... I like that this productd turns white when dried. But you do have to be careful to put the lid back on tighly or the stuff drys out and then does not spread right on the wall; A fan or air movement will help it to dry quicker. There does seem to be some slight shrinkage when doing nail holes so i suggest over filling slightly so it only takes 1 coat to cover the hole.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible consistency. Difficult to apply. This stuff is somewhere between silly putty and chewing gum. It’s too sticky to apply smoothly and sparingly. It goes on really unevenly and even whennyou go over it with tge tool it rips and separates. Worst ever. If you are filling really small nailholes I’m sure it woukd work ok, but we had popped bullnose corners where we had to fill alot and it wasxa mess.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I have regrets I applied the first layer of compound and put the tape over it... let it dry overnight and went back to apply the 2nd layer but all the tape was curling up. I had to pull all the tape up and start over... wasting an entire 32oz container of this stuff. The good news is that it’s not hard to get off the drywall, it pretty much crumbles right off.
