Q:I have a large 2'x3' window glass being replaced on an old metal window frame on a 1950s style home. I can not use push-tabs to hold the glass, so will this product be ok to use? Did not want 100% silicone since it must be paintable.

        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP DYNAFLEX 230 is not recommended for use as a window glazing sealant (the interface between glass and window frame or glass to glass joints in window construction/repair). This type of project requires the use of specialty sealants, approved by window manufacturer for use in glazing repair applications. Unfortunately, DAP does not offer a sealant for this type of application. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

        by|Jun 24, 2024

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. The DAP Dynaflex 230 Premium Window Door and Siding Sealant is not designed, tested, or recommended for glazing applications (installation of class into window frames). DAP offers specialty window glazing compounds for this type of application. The use of any other product for glazing application would constitute an off-label use (misapplication). Should you have any additional questions or wish to discuss this further, please free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

I used this product to seal the bottom and edges of back painted glass i installed. If tapped off it is easy to smooth into a seal.

Worked as advertised. Changed color to clear after so many days. Easy cleanup and smoothing with wet finger. Painted on day 8.

This product comes out white, then dries clear, but it also shrinks as it dries. Ended up applying twice to compensate for the shrinking.

            Lots of boing
Very good caulk! Easy to apply and because it has so much elasticity, it seals really reliably. I ahd previously used a stiffer caulk for a bathroom vanity and it cracked. This one doesn’t crack even if you budge and wiggle the vanity.

This stuff lasts both on the job and in the tube!
I live in NE Florida. As I write this, it is Jan 2024. I bought my new to me house in 2006. During the first couple months of home ownership, I tried to right all the wrongs left for me by the previous owner. My home has wood flooring, and there were gaps or spaces that looked unsightly. I found this brown Dynaflex 230 premium, the color almost matched the floor, and it seemed a easy solution. I filled the gaps, and sealed the tube for storage. I always put 2 pieces electrical tape over the tip, then wrap the nozzle round and round for a air tight seal. I keep my unused caulks in my hot humid garage. Today I needed some caulk for a project, color didn't matter, so I thought I'd see what I might have. I pulled this tube from a high shelf and began to unseal it. The tip material was dried and wouldn't budge so I cut some off the nozzle. After some effort, the cured material started to move and very soon pliable caulk began to flow. Wow, I couldn't believe it! It applied like it was bought recently, not 18 years ago. I am sold!!

I like using this for base and trim and windows. Easy to work with and gives a nice finish when done. Seams to last and stay flexible. It set ups rather well compared to other's I have used and can be painted in the same day when you time it right. Definitely a go to for a lot of my projects.

Response from Technical DepartmentJan 31, 2024
Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to see your low star review on DAP Dynaflex 230 Premium Elastomeric Sealant. Because you did not indicate a time component, the size of the joint, application surfaces or application conditions, it is difficult to provide a proper response. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you about your project and provide you with the guidance you need to move forward.
                  Poor Quality Control
As a quality control professional, I'd be mortified to see this. I bought a tube of clear caulk and it was actually white, as shown in the attached photo. Of course, I will return but that doesn't do much for my wasted time.

                  Response from DAPProductExpertSep 5, 2023
Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Dynaflex 230 Premium Elastomeric Sealant.
We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP DYNAFLEX 230 (Clear). As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: " DYNAFLEX 230 (Clear) applies white and dries clear in 7-14 days (depending on joint depth, temperature and humidity). DYNAFLEX 230 is an acrylic-latex (water-based) chemistry, accordingly, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation of water. Dry time can be significantly impacted by cool or humid application conditions, moisture in the application surfaces or by thick (deep) applications of the sealant. Clear acrylic-latex sealants cannot turn clear until all of the water contained in them has evaporated. Because you did not provide any project details, such as: size of the joint, application surfaces, surface preparation, application technique, application conditions or the amount of time since the product was applied, it is difficult to provide a proper response in this format. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you. DAP
