Q:I have all 3 - clear/white/biscuit- why do they all look white???
by|Mar 21, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  They should not look the same. I have used the clear and the white and the clear is clear and the white is very bright white. I would double check the caulk tube to make sure you have the color you wanted and if the tube is labeled biscuit, which should be off white, or it is labeled clear and comes out white I would return to your local store as the item was labeled incorrectly. I would also return if you placed an order and did not receive the color you ordered. I hope this helps and good luck with your project!

A:  The clear will probably appear white/cloudy until it dries. The biscuit should at least appear to be a little tan in color when wet. If it doesn’t, it could be a labeling mistake.

A:  Clear caulking looks white in the tube, ones it's applied turned clear. Same with biscuit, seems white them change color.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP KWIK SEAL PLUS. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "KWIK SEAL PLUS (Clear) applies white and dries clear in 7-14 days (depending on joint depth, temperature and humidity).", DAP KWIK SEAL PLUS (White) will apply and dry white. DAP KWIK SEAL PLUS (Biscuit) applies as a light, off-white color. Answer This Question

A:  I cleaned and prepped the surface thoroughly before use as well as allowed a full 24 hour cure on an indoor project. A day later the bead was dried up, cracking and separating. I specifically bought their top of the line product and am disappointed that I now have to redo the job.

Q:Can this product be applied on the Wooden surface as well?

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Kwik Seal Plus is primarily designed for kitchen and bath applications, such as tile, tubs and shower enclosures. While it will bond to clean/dry wood, there are other more appropriate choices for this type of application surface material. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477, so that we can obtain some additional information from you about your intended project and to discuss more appropriate product options.

A:  Yes.  I used it to fill in holes, etc. when I had new baseboards put in.  I’ve used it to fill in holes in wall where nails had been.  It works better than the filler you have to sand. What’s the down side of trying it?

A:  yes, I do not see why not. but if you apply enough the first coat - you shouldn't need a second coat

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. While one application is usually sufficient (and preferred) for normal joint/gap filling, for deeper joints, two or more layers (with a full 18+ hour drying interval between applications) can be done. Of note: Joint size should not exceed 3/8” wide x 3/8” deep. If joint depth exceeds 3/8", use backer rod material. Second applications can also be made to "touch up" missed areas, low areas or for better cosmetic appearance. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Save your time and money and buy anything else. This stuff shrunk and cracked in the majority of the areas it was used. I was forced to rip it out and redo it. Do not use this product on anything you deem important.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review on KWIK SEAL PLUS. As is the case with all acrylic-latex (water based) sealants, volume loss will occur as the product dries, this is normal characteristic for this type of formula. Only non-water/non-solvent-based sealants are capable of "low/no volume loss" performance, however, these types of sealants will require the use of solvent (mineral spirits/paint thinner) for clean-up, likewise, some of these sealants are not paintable. Because your review did not contain any details about your project, it is difficult to provide a more detailed reply in this format. Buyer beware: Shrinks and cracks excessively
This is the only choice HD has in stock when it comes to paintable + water cleanup bathroom & kitchen caulks (i.e. contain mildewcide, and are not 100% silicone => can touch up if needed). However, I've never seen a caulk shrink and crack as badly (~48h after application!!) as this formulation on gaps as small as 1/8"-3/16", w/ or w/o backing rod. There's no movement in the surfaces, and the surfaces were properly sanded and cleaned prior; average indoor temp & RH. Buyer beware!

                      Bad Sealant!
Sealant completely failed after two weeks. Like you see on the pictures it start separating from shower tub. Everything was prepared like it should, clean with acetone, dry surface on both tiles and shower tub etc. When I start removing sealant today I notice that is very dry and cracking! It's not acting like silicone but like dry playdough. Very disappointed because I have to do all the work again in twio bathrooms and shower. no more DAP products for me

Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP KWIK SEAL PLUS. KWIK SEAL PLUS is a siliconized acrylic-latex (water-based) formula, not a "silicone" (100% silicone rubber) based formula. KWIK SEAL PLUS would not be expected to have a "rubbery" texture or the same degree of flexibility as a 100% silicone rubber sealant. DAP offers a full line of silicone rubber sealants, including DAP SILICONE MAX PREMIUM KITCHEN, BATH & PLUMBING 100% SILICONE SEALANT. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you and so that we can suggest an alternate product more in line with your needs/preferences. BUYER BEWARE!!! Lasted Less Than a Month!!
I let it dry. Noticed after two days that some of it was coming off, washing away. Within a week it, whatever remained was cracking and shrinking, pulling away from the tiles and the wall. Now I have to redo my bath tub. Do not buy this product.

                          Color on tube flaking off
I professionally refinish tub, surrounds and sinks. After I'm done spraying I caulk the tub. Well the outside of the tube is flaking off, into the freshly painted tub. I may stop buying this product and try some other brand. I've already had to tape some of the tube

I had set this product in replacement of old caulk, set for 48h. Seems almost as the water had literally eaten it away 3 days later. Shower is leaking and now I have a problem. Not happy

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP KWIK SEAL PLUS. KWIK SEAL PLUS, as with all acrylic-latex (water-based) formulas, dry solely by the evaporation of water. Thick (deep) applications, applications subject to lower temperatures/higher humidity, damp/wet application surfaces and/or application areas with poor air circulation will dry at significantly slower rates. Until the product has properly dried, water resistance will not be fully developed. Because you did not provide any details regarding your application, such as joint dimensions, temperature, humidity, application materials or any information regarding your application technique, it is difficult to provide you with a more detailed reply or any specific product usage guidance in this format. Should wish to provide these details so that we can better addressed your concern, please feel free to contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
never cured, comes off with water!!!
What a piece of crap! I never came across a bath sealant that hasn't cured within 24 hours. This one comes off with water after 18 hour recommended dry time and then bug holes developed in it! Now I have to scrape it off and do a double job!

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP Kwik Seal Plus. As this is a water-based/acrylic-latex formula, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation of water (it is not a "curative" formula as speculated). Dry time can be significantly impacted by cool or humid application conditions, moisture in/on the application surface or by thick (deep) applications of the sealant. Application outside of these conditions will lead to long dry times and slow performance development. Because you did not provide any details, such as the application surfaces, surface preparation, bead size, application conditions (temperature and humidity) or any information regarding your application technique, it is difficult to provide you with a proper response or any specific product usage guidance in this format. drop in sink install
Worked great for my drop in sink install. It is a silicone sealant as well as adhesive. It does seem that many people are trying to use it in applications where they need just a waterproof caulk or sealant (like 100% silicone). Lays down easily on Formica countertop. Nice bead, which helps conserve material. Dries clear with this thin application within 24 hours. Easy clean up with water. No odor. Previous sink was installed over 60 years ago with plumber's putty. Hope this lasts as long!
