Answer This Question
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. The DAP Plaster of Paris is not designed, tested, labeled, or recommended for the purpose as described. For grain filling applications, we would recommend our DAP Premium Wood Filler, which is formulated specifically for use as a 3-in-1 wood filler, grain filler and sealer coat. Q:Can Plaster of Paris be used to repair damage caused by a leaking roof of a plaster ceiling in a bathroom? What is the best product for such a repair? Thank You.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Plaster of Paris. Assuming the source of the leak has been remedied, the DAP Plaster of Paris can be used to repair the plaster ceiling. As is the case with all wall/ceiling patching compounds, the final surface appearance of the product is contingent upon your application technique. Tooling or smoothing is required to initially place and shape the profile of the product to a smooth surface appearance and more than one application of the patch may be necessary. Likewise, sanding of the patch may be required to achieve the desired cosmetic finish, prior to painting/decorating. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you and to provide you with guidance on how to complete your project.

Works great for patching walls
If you ever think about doing any sort drywall patching, having this stuff is a must. I always find myself needing to fill holes in drywall, prep for painting a room or needing to repair a hole in a wall. Recently, my son was standing on the shelves in the pantry and they couldn't support his weight. As soon as I heard the crashing in the kitchen, I knew we need to repair the drywall. Fortunately, we always keep Plaster of Paris on hand in our house. The best part about Plaster of Paris is the fact that it doesn't dry up, because it's powder. Whenever you need to patch some drywall, go mix it with some water and have at it!

I have used your plaster of paris for years!
I use your plaster in all my sculptures. My technique I learned from an art professor I had at Long Beach State University. I use a 2 to 3 times plaster to water without mixing. I then hand apply the plaster to a wire armater. It sets very hard yet it can easily be finished with files and sand paper. I then paint 6 coates of bronze tone paints and seal with varithane spray.

Bought this to fix damaged areas on wall. Unfortunately found it very difficult to use as compared to other products I've used. If applied and you do 2nd swipe to level it has already started to harden and you can't get smooth surface. I tried multiple times and finally gave up and bought premixed filler. It's more expensive but so much easier to work with.
