Without more specific details about your intended project, such as the reason for the repair (cosmetic, water damage, rot etc.), the wood type, the depths of the hole to be filled, the dimension of the wood to be repaired, it is difficult to provide a detailed response. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you about your project and provide you with the guidance you need to move forward.

Customer Reviews

Plastic Wood 4 oz. Natural Solvent Woodfiller (12-Pack) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 165.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Product itself is great...DO NOT buy the squeeze tube I have used Plastic wood for the last few years and have had great success with it. I typically buy the small metal container but this time I chose to purchase the squeeze tube. BAD IDEA. I have had the same experience as other posters below. The product at the top of the tube was really gritty and half dry. I squeezed about 1/2" of product out of the tube and "POP" the entire bottom of the tube blew out. I had a giant glob of plastic wood sitting on my hardwood floors (wiped right up, so not a big deal, but if I had been on the carpet portion of the floor it would have been a mess). I ended up squeezing the entire tube worth of product out through the bottom into a plastic dish and completing my project, but there was no saving what was left and my project timeline got extremely condensed. Great product but DAP needs to do some serious work on the squeeze tube packaging.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wouldn't take a stain-Frustrating We filled an area about the size of a half dollar and not very deep on the door of an old hutch of my mom's that we are refinishing. It went on great, hardened well, and sanded just fine. Went to put stain on--MinWax Wood stain-- and it just won't absorb it. When I go to wipe off the excess, almost all the stain comes off. Just a few specks left. I have left it on for a few minutes and tried many times; left it on up to an hour. Still didn't work. Then I tried putting on some Howard's refinish, then stain. Sill not sticking. I am very unhappy! This area is on the door which is in the front of the hutch and quite visible. It isn't raining or too cold or too hot or high humidity or out in the sun. All I can think of to do is to chisel it out and try someone else's product but I risk damaging the rest of the door doing that. Any ideas?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have bought the product for 50 years. The product works well if you follow the directions carefully. Have some acetone, for thinning, on hand. Use the tube only once; there's no way to thin the product in the tube. The product dries out fast and works best if the consistency is close to that of peanut butter. Keep in mind: a thin coat dries in an hour or less, but a coat too thick, greater than a quarter inch, takes a very long time, sometimes days. When applied carefully, the product is strong, finishes nicely, blends nicely, and takes paint well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this product! It doesn't bind to the wood. Six months ago, after carefully following the directions, I used fresh DAP Plastic Wood-X to fill holes, caused by woodpeckers, in the cedar railing of my outdoor deck. The product dried okay and I was able to sand it a few days later. My plan was to stain the patches and cedar railing in the Sprint. Well now it's Spring, and the snow has melted here in Western NY, and I've sadly discovered that the Wood-X patches have absorbed moisture softened: I can stick my fingernails right into the patches and also easily scrape them off the wood railing with a putty knife. I now need to remove all my work of six months ago, then refill the gouges with another product, prior to staining the railing. I've always found DAP products to be excellent in the past--until this time. Very disappointing. The product is absolutely no good for outdoor use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DAP Plastic Wood works wonders!!! I use DAP Plastic Wood wood filler all the time for building props and set pieces in the entertainment industry. Many of the negative reviews I've seen here are based on not understanding the product or how to properly use it. Used correctly, this stuff is fantastic! It cures quickly, sands beautifully, and takes paint with ease. Thanks, DAP, for producing a terrific and reliable product. Keep up the good work!!! (Oh, and for those complaining about the can being 'half empty'... that's how it's supposed to be! The space is for mixing/thinning with acetone and adding color.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! IT DOES NOT STAIN!!!! I followed all directions to a tee. I had new oak stairs installed. I first used wood conditioner, then applied the stain. The color was PERFECT, even throughout, NO BLOTCHING!!!. Then I used the DAP to fill holes and some gaps, lightly sanded with 220 grit when dry, reapplied the stain, then my beautiful stairs DISAPPEARED, all my hard work went down the toilet. I bought this product because it stated right on the package that it was STAINABLE!!! It is NOT!! DAP: Don't advertise what is not true. It has cost me many more hours of work to correct an issue created by this product!! Plus the delay in finishing the rest of the room. I wish I had read some of these reviews before I bought it. I have attached pictures of the ruined stairs. I just wish I took pictures of them before I used this product. In all fairness, I have and still do use your other products, particularly your caulks, which work great, but I have only painted over them. This is my first, and last, time I will use any DAP product with wood stain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looked Like A Professional Did The Job DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler is exactly what I needed for repairs around my parents condo. I recently inherited it, and I am in the process of fixing it up. There is a lot of wood trim in the house that needs to be repaired and painted and this DAP filler is working great. It is really easy to work with, applies without any problems, easy to sand and paint over, and the finished product looks like a pro did it. I've used other fillers in the past, but this worked better. I would have no problem buying this product in the future, and I would definitely recommend it to others.
