Can this product be used to fix The top of a broken tobacco water pipe?

Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP All-Purpose 100% Silicone Adhesive Sealant is not tested or recommended for for this type of "off label" application (as described). Should you have additional questions, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Would I be able to use this to fill in small holes drilled into a 5 gallon bucket?

Asked by Tara January 1, 2021

Answers

Thank you for posting your inquiry. 5 gallon buckets are most commonly made with HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). Due to HDPE’s low surface energy (slick/nonporous properties), this type of plastic is extremely difficult for most products to develop proper adhesion to. Of note: Even when an initial bond appears to be formed, they are not typically considered high strength or permanent (especially when flexing, wide temperature fluctuations and/or moisture exposure occurs). Should you have any further questions or wish to discuss this, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Answer

As it the case with all acetoxy silicone formulas (including DAP All-Purpose 100% Silicone Adhesive Sealant "Aquarium Sealant"), they are known to cause corrosion of metals, such as: copper, copper alloys and zinc, as these metals are prone to be impacted by exposure to acid/acid vapor.

Stuff is great...nothing else to say.. Tip for the cap breakers....put some vasaline in the tube end or in the cap before you put cap back on and don't muscle it.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We are sorry to see your low star review on DAP All-Purpose 100% Silicone Adhesive Sealant. This product is only intended for use in submerged applications when applied to glass. Likewise, the product must be applied to clean/dry surfaces and permitted to fully cure before it can be submerged. For submerged repairs on other materials, the use of a two-component epoxy would typically be recommended. Even these more specialized products do not typically result in a permanent repair when used as you describe. DAP
Works good, but dries out in the tube.
I use the DAP All-Purpose Adhesive Sealant for many jobs. Its initial setup time (about 45 minutes) is pretty good, and fully cures within 24 hours. It really needs a better cap. The cap has broken on 6 tubes of partially used adhesive, allowing them to dry out and become unusable.

Better than epoxy
I use it to seal my 2 aquariums. One at home and one at work. Also permanent fix for my bezel on my antique cat.

Decent silicone, ridiculous packaging. Tiny tubes requiring multiple packages to complete a project , and impossible to squeeze out a consistent bead or get the last 1/4 of the product out of the tube. This would work much better in 10oz 'caulk gun' style tubes.
