Q:Why it has vinegar smell? And still wet after applied one hour? It?s normal?
by|May 25, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your feedback. DAP Silicone Max is a 100% silicone formula. Acetoxy silicones can generate a strong vinegar-like odor while curing. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Acetic acid is evolved during cure. Avoid breathing vapors. Use only with adequate ventilation. Ensure fresh air entry during application & drying." .A full cure for this product is 24 hours, we would expect for it to still be uncured after 1 hour. Based on your feedback, you may wish to consider a lower odor, an easier to use acrylic latex (soap and water clean-up formula), such as DAP KWIK SEAL ULTRA. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Silicone Max Kitchen & Bath. As is the case for all acetoxy silicone formulas, they are not recommended for use cementitious surfaces (portland cement containing materials, such as concrete). Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  I don't know about concrete countertop. I used it to reseal areas in my tub. It has lasted for a year now and going strong.

      by|May 6, 2023

A:  Hi - I looked up the technical data sheet and it says it will bond to "above ground foundations" and cement board, among other things, so I think it should be fine bonding to concrete as long as it doesn't stay wet all the time.  Here is  the entire list - Wood – painted & unpainted, Glass, Ceramic, Porcelain, Vinyl, Most plastics (PVC, ABS), Aluminum, Vents, Pipes, Corner joints, Above ground foundations, Most metals, Drywall, Plaster, Composite materials, Fiber cement board, Fiberglass, Most common building materials

A:  I don’t know if it will or not, I would call the customer help phone number on the container and ask them.

Q:If I tape to make clean lines, when do I remove the tape?

            Answer This Question

A:  Right after you lay down the caulk. Remove while it’s still wet.

            by|Apr 23, 2023

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. When using painter’s masking tape, the tape must be removed immediately after tooling and before the applied caulk skins over. If you wait until after the caulk has skinned over/dried to remove the tape, you may end up pulling up the caulk with it (as the tape typically becomes embedded under the applied sealant). Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP DAP SILICONE MAX Premium Kitchen, Bath & Plumbing 100% Silicone Sealant is designed, marketed, labeled, and recommended for use as a general-purpose kitchen and batch sealant. To hard to work with!
I have caulked many things before and this is by far the worst caulk I’ve have ever used. I laid a bead on two corner shower walls and three sides of a tub. Two minutes later I went back to smooth it out and this happened. No way should that happen so fast. Nightmare! Now I have to remove and redo. Anybody who has tried to remove silicone caulk knows what trouble this is going to be.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We’re sorry to see your low star review on DAP Silicone MAX Premium Kitchen & Bath Sealant. Silicone Max is specifically designed and formulated for fast skinning (surface curing), which enables the product to develop water resistance (return to service) in 30 minutes. This rapid skinning characteristic means that there is reduced open time (time to apply/tool). As indicated in the product data: “Tooling Time (Working Time): 5-10 minutes”. The issue that you describe are not likely related to a product performance issue, rather as a result of the application technique employed. All tooling must be conducted prior to the product “skinning”. Attempting to tool after skin formation will likely result in a poor surface appearance (as depicted in your photograph). At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information regarding your project and to offer some additional application guidance and/or to recommend a product with a longer working time. I needed some silicone to seal a new drop-in bathroom sink to the counter as well as fix a leak in the corner of our shower door. This tube was a little more expensive than some of the others available in the store but on the recommendation of an associate I purchased this. I was not disappointed. This silicone works great. It is easy to spread and sets up within about half an hour. It does have a bit of a smell (like vinegar) but that goes away after a day or so. The sink is now sealed to the counter and the shower quit leaking.

My #1 Choice for Bathroom & Kitchen!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! This is probably my 2nd or 3rd review of a product over the last 7 years, but I had to put my two cents in about this product. I've tried a number of sealants and this one by far is the best one that I've used. It's now my #1 go to for bathroom and kitchen projects. The picture included is a recent picture of a bathroom sealant job that I did almost a year ago in a rental property that I manage.

                        So far, so good!
The caulk was easy to apply in the recaulking of my molded shower. Fingers crossed this holds against mold and mildew!

Used DAP Silicone Max Premium Kitchen and Bath Silicone Sealant to seal around base of our flag pole. It was easy to use and appears to be doing what we wanted it to do. Once it was applied it only took about 24 hours to completely cure.
