Absolute junk!
I built a 10x20 deck last fall. Laid it out with HD deck designer and picked up everything at my local store. These "NEW and improved" design deck mate screws are the worst fastener I've ever used. I had no problem with them tightening down like other people have claimed. My issue showed up 4 months later. After the snow melted I inspected the deck and found a few screw heads sticking up. Well to my surprise when I went to tighten them down I found all of them had broke!!! Now I'm in the process of replacing all the deckmate screws with GRK. So far 50% of them are broken. Stay far away from these screws!! Im going to contact my local HD and demand my Money back

Improved version is worthless
“Improved” version absolutely sucks. It’s horrible, does not pull the two pieces of wood together. The screw just keeps spinning. Bring back the old version, which was perfect!!!
If you want to pre-drill every hole, buy it, otherwise look at other brands. I am so disappointed as I bought a lot of them and I used to rave about this screw using it for everything outdoors and indoors. Picture shows “improved” version on left, with different thread pattern that does not create a tight connection anymore

Bad batch??
Just as Jeromie stated, screws are breaking. 35'x25' ft deck built in Feb 2020, it's now September. 1/2 the deck boards are popping up. After inspection it turns out the screws had snapped and are no longer holding the boards down. I did not count all the screws but at least 50 of them are broken. Also the starhead strips out very fast. These screws are great screws and not sure if I got a bad batch. Using these screws in the past on other decks I've built I've never had these problems.

They break after 1 year
Built 3 level 1800 sqft deck in Oct of last year. Was going to clean and stain this week but instead im dealing with broken screws. Up to 50+ replaced so far and still have largest deck to go. These screws are junk. I just finished chemo in August and now i have to deal with this. Decimate is manufactured by homedepot if you guys didn't know.

Screws are breaking after less than two months
Over the course of the two months, I've purchased four separate boxes of Deckmate star drive coated screws to use in securing deckboards while remodeling my back deck:
(2) 1 lb boxes of 2 1/2" (item #: 1003 274 848)
(1) 5 lb box of 2 1/2" (1003 274 835)
(1) 1 lb box of 3 1/2" (1003 274 833)
I've since stained my deck and thought I was finished with the project when I began to notice some of the screws slightly "popping" loose. While attempting to re-secure them with a drill, I determined that several of the screws had essentially begun to break. So far I've discovered at least ten of them (photo of several below, along with an "unbroken" one for reference) that have broken, all in a similar spot on the screw.
I really liked these screws when installing and their promise of "lifetime warranty" but am now greatly concerned over what the future holds regarding their durability.
