Questions & Answers

Replace blades

Asked by: Tony
The saw takes the standard reciprocating saw blades. Many options available at home depot. To replace the blade pull up on the yellow tab where the blade attaches and pull the blade out. To insert the new blade lift up the tab and insert the new blade. There are multiple locations to insert the blade so pick the one that works best with the angle you plan to use the saw.

Customer Reviews

10 Amp Reciprocating Saw is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 78.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from tough I've had mine since 2005 and used all the time for everything from rough framing to demolition to cutting down trees. The saw is powerful enough, doesn't bog down except when I'm pushing it WAY too hard. The quick change key is sloppy and can only be used when the arbor is retracted into the saw. Not that big of a deal but annoying, and the chuck doesn't hold blades well anymore and is hard to cut straight with, so I mainly use my saw for yardwork and demolition, pretty much where I can afford a sloppy cut. Plunge cuts are pretty much out of the question anymore, but the occasional square hole in plywood sheeting still works. The sloppiness happened years ago and I told myself I'd toss it when it broke, but the chuck still works well enough and the saw itself is as powerful as ever even though I've ran it for hours straight, dragged it through dirt and mud, and packed with enough dirt and debris to choke a horse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power/Price/Versatility I compared features on reciprocating saws for weeks but kept coming back to this one. Ten amps at this price point is great as it is, but the 4-position blade clamp set it apart. The rock-solid feel, quality cord, excellent power and quick blade changes are all there... but getting them with the flexibility of changing the blade orientation at this price just doesn't happen with other brands. I brought this home day one and used the horizontal blade orientation to flush-cut some sloppy work cemented to the underside of a kitchen counter. Very happy with my purchase through several projects so far, and I look forward to taking it to some iron rebar building a hog pit this spring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very powerful and well designed. I am redoing a house and needed a good reciprocating saw. I was disappointed in the cost of most and the poor design. I found this one on sale and it was the best of the lot. We I got it I had to take it back to the shop as I couldn't get the blade to stay in. The guy in the tool section took me to another that was on the shelf and it worked just fine. We messed with it for a little while, sprayed a little wd40 into the mechanism we got it going and it's been fine if a bit stiff. One thing that was surprising is how well it does trimming trees. When my chainsaw gave it up for the day, I started using my DeWalt. It really shocked my crew at how quick it chopped through branches as big as my knee! And it did it for hours without complaint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value reciprocating saw I have normally avoided Dewalt due to vastly overinflated prices for them, but this saw was not (overinflated that is). It was a very good price for a good saw. I debated between this and the rXXXX and the RXXXXX, I finally chose this one as was very glad I did. It is heavy but has more power and longer stroke than either the rxxxx or Rxxxxx. When I first used it I was shocked at how powerfull and easy it was to use and maneuver. The handles and grips are perfect, and easy to maneuver. This is important since it has much more power than the rXXXX and cuts much faster and smoother. I had a small tree trunk to cut that I had unsuccessfully tried to cut with my 18v rXXXX saw and all my batterys would go dead before I could make more than a few inches into the trunk. I hit it with this saw and BOY.. what a difference, It sliced through that tree stump like a hot knife through butter. (I like butter..). The price was the best value for the money and the almost perfect 5 star ratings settled it for me. I am very glad I bought this. If you want the best value in a recip saw, buy this one. It's plenty for virtually all users, and the price is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tool I'm a carpenter, and I need reliable tools. This has been a very reliable tool. The main feature I like is the 90 degree blade alteration. I've had to get into tight spots, like right up against a wall, and the tool's blade adjustment, along with a longer blade, allows me to get into those really tight/cut-up-against-the-wall spots. I had one of these 4 years ago, and the pin in the lever, which changes the blades, fell out. I exchanged it for another one. Now, this year, 2014, I purchased a third Saw. The purpose for a third saw, was buying it for another contractor buddy. So, yes!!! I would buy this saw again, and in fact I did. For the price and functionality, and reliability, to me, it was the best buy. My other current Dewalt saw runs great. I've used it very hard for the last 4 years. Never has failed to operate. Super Demo Tool!!! For a "corded" reciprocating saw, this is the one. Under 100 bucks, this is my "go-to" saw. I have other reciprocating saws, but for the price, and what I do...this saw takes beating and keeps going.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality manufacturing I owned this tool for several years, about 3 but have used it very little and intermitently. One day it stopped working, i found a repair shop, paid $78.00 to have the gear replaced, then the quick release mechanism didn't work. When pulling the release tab it would "click" and stay in the up position. The blade could not be enter since the actual release slipped into the lock position. I took it back but the repair shop could not fix it. So after two trips across town and $78.00 repair for a $99.00 tool I am stuck. In the 1st place I shouldn't have any trouble with a DeWalt tool, especially when it wasn't used more than 2 hours over a three year span. I used it occationally for home improvement projects and used the appropratie blades for the job. I must have gotten the one DeWalt lemon manufactuted. I beleive Dewalt needs to make good on their product by either giving a full refund or a replacement tool. I need Hone Depot to broker this request for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Saw but Crummy Bag The saw itself is good and an old favorite in the market. But I will say that DeWalt is going cheap these days. They're now giving this ten cent cloth bag instead of the great tough cases they used to come with. I want my tools to last. That means keeping them in a well protected case. I'm very disappointed with this case as it wont protect my tool at all. The zipper is even cheap. Also the home depot description is incorrect for this tool. It no longer comes with the "heavy-duty case" that the description list. Type 1 and 2 used to come with that case, the stores are now being stocked with Type 3 of this model. I checked/confirmed this with the DeWalt parts website. Which by the way will cost you $24.67 plus shipping... that's something that USED to come with the tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved my problem! I'm flipping my deck boards over because the previous owner painted them and they are horrible. Some of the boards are fastened with screws that are impossible to remove. This saw has already paid for itself! It zips through the nails and is easy to handle. The 4-way blade holder allows me to cut screws in some really close places. I'm very pleased.
