Questions & Answers

Cross cutting 4x4?

Would this work for cutting 4x4s to length?
Asked by: Scotty4991
Nope. It will cut to a depth of 3.125", as advertised, as is the case with most all 10" saws. A 4x4 is 3.5".

Do the legs shown come with the saw?

Asked by: Terry
The original 745 did not come with a stand, but the new 745S comes with the saw and it's stand. As far as I know at Home Depot this is the only way to purchase this particular saw now.

It's so well designed and made that I can't bring myself to give it only four. The rack & pinon fence makes rip adjustments simple and precise. Everything, from accessory storage to the push stick is outstanding. The built-in tape measure is accurate and very easily adjusted. Mine was off by less than 1/32", but it took only about one minute and a Phillips screwdriver to make it perfect. So what's the complaint? The toy-like mitre gauge is made of plastic and the knob is so small that I had trouble locking it. It's hard to believe that DeWalt would sully an otherwise beautiful machine with this disappointing pretender. I replaced mine with a Powermatic for about $30 and now the saw is a dream. I love this saw and I'm sure you will too.

I'm a carpenter in the building trades and we use this and two other Dewalt saws on a daily basis. This saw is better than my table saw that I have in my garage/shop, and I'm thinking of replacing it with a Dewalt. This saw is sturdy and easy to use.

I followed a youtube suggestion and put some tape on the front parts of the fence bracket to tilt it backwards to make it square. otherwise out of the box is great. 2) if you are creating a table to sit the saw in, with outfeed and side support - only the back legs of the table saw have height adjustment mechanism on them, the front has the round rubber feet that can not be moved up or down in height. so you need to get the table top height bang on, otherwise you will have to shim it all once you add the saw. otherwise I really like the saw so far. The rack and pinion fence adjustment cant be beat. miter gauge is a bit sloppy and wiggles, but seems that at this price range they all do. I have made several projects with the saw already and have no intention of returning it. (cannot say the same for a $130 ryobi and porter cable that I tried before this one).

I have gone through 4 or 5 table saws, usually purchasing value priced saws. I got what I paid for. Although I use this for homeowner projects rather than my trade, one saw simply burnt out, another had the housing crack, and another (Craftsman) I had trouble with the fence moving as I was cutting trim. Disgusted, I decided to jump into a quality tool. I studied reviews of this DeWalt and the Bosch and the Hitachi, and decided on this DeWalt. The fence, which I think is very important to stay precisely parallel to the blade, is on a rack and pinion system which keeps it accurate. This saw arrived without needing any of the micro-adjustments of the lower priced saws; everything was perfect. I would have preferred the rolling DeWalt table saw stand, but this one is very sturdy and the saw is not very heavy, offering portability without the wheels. You have to unbolt the saw from the stand if you wish to fold the stand for storage. I didn't like this time consuming task, so I purchased the Hillman Group 58528 1/4 x 2-Inch Round Loop Wire Lock Pin, 4-Pack, which allows me to much more quickly fasten/unfasten this saw from the stand for compact storage. The blade that came with this saw is good, but I replaced it with a Forrest USA-made carbide blade because the saw is only as good as the blade you are using, and I grew tired of settling for economy or value blades. I really enjoy this saw and the Forrest blade, it makes me look forward to using this. The other saws I wasted more money on than the price of this saw were toys in comparison. Hope this is helpful.

I've had my saw for a few months and so far, I am very happy with it, with a few additions. In my opinion, the only fault I found is the original miter guage. It's cheap, light weight and difficult to accurately adjust the angle. The first thing I did was purchase a POWERTEC 71005 Deluxe Table Saw Miter Gauge and added a 1" x 4" wood fence. It is absolutely impossible to initally loosen the arbor screw using the two wrenches. It took a 1/2 inch drive 18 inch long breaker bar AND a BFP to loosen this nut. I had to tilt the blade 45 degrees and wiggle the breaker bar with a 23mm socket onto the nut, shich is tricky. Luckly I have a complete 1/2" drive metric set. I'm sure the next time I have to remove the arbor screw it will (hopefully) be easier. There are few other additions I recommend to make your saw more useful. A Leecraft DW-2 Zero-Clearance Table Saw Insert for DeWalt Model DW744 and DW746 zero clearance. It DOES fit the DW745. A feather bar for close ripping. Two high quality blades. A 40 tooth general purpose blade to replace the original 25 tooth DeWalt blade, and an 80 tooth blade for finer cuts on moulding and cutting plywood to reduce the possibility of splintering the wood on the bottom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great choice I am very pleased so far. I usually buy Ridgid products for the life time warranty. But decided the Dewalt was better for me. This is an out of the box, and start cutting in less than five minutes item, liked that a lot. The major item that I choose the Dewalt over the Ridgid, was the gear driven fence, that has more support to stay straight. So far I like this also, I have used the Ridgid several times on an older model and straight is not always straight. And this product is light and easy to pick up. Happy customer.

Do not expect shop quality precision unless you are very good at tweaking this saw into alignment. It takes quite a bit of adjustment to be able to cut a sheet of 4 x 8 plywood down the middle (24") but can be done. I also found it necessary to realign the blade to be in line with the table and fence but is doable. The instruction manual is a bit difficult to follow so use common sense. Like I said previously, this is exactly as advertised, a good job site table saw.
