Cross cutting 4x4?

Would this work for cutting 4x4s to length?
Asked by: Scotty4991
Nope. It will cut to a depth of 3.125", as advertised, as is the case with most all 10" saws. A 4x4 is 3.5".

can a dado blade be used if I attatch the dado blade throat plate to this saw?

Model # DW745 Internet # 100497987 Store SKU # 136489
Asked by: Gigster
No, most of these portable table saws are not made to support dado blades. The arbor is too small to accommodate it, which I assume is intentional by the manufacturer, probably the motor wouldn't be strong enough.

Positives: The fence adjustment strategy is very nice - easy to fine tune cut size with knob adjuster. includes a well-placed rip push tool (located on fence) lightweight tools for blade change attach to unit Negatives: nowhere to store extra blades (this would be easy to rectify) the fence has not remained true to the blade the arbor for raising and lowering the blade has repeatedly gotten hung up - very frustrating in the field. The cord capture gizmo on the plug is junk - the cord refuses to stay wrapped. This 5 cent problem quite an irritant. For about $5 more, they could make this saw AWESOME. Instead, just okay. About ready to replace this unit as the fence adjustment carriage got dinged in the field and now the fence doesn't adjust properly. This is actually something to consider when making this purchase - while the fence adjusts easily, it is a somewhat fragile affair!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Saw With A Plastic Miter Guage I build furniture, have a large shop, and know a little about saws. Do not let the size fool you. This is an excellent saw, and it was dead on accurate out of the box. I understood going in that it was not in the class of my Powermatic, but was really surprised how close it actually was in accuracy and cutting 2" oak. The stock blade is not bad, and gets the job done, however a Woodworker II will take it to the next level. Now for the con. A PLASTIC MITER GAUGE ??? That is like building a great car and putting an XBOX steering wheel in it. It is black, hard to read, hard to set, and has a lot of slop side to side when in the miter track. Why, to save a couple of $$ ??? I was able to use my INCRA 1000 from the Powermatic, which solved my issue. People who are not lucky enough to have this option, should not be stuck with plastic junk !! If you are looking for a great saw, look no further. I do suggest investing in a better blade, and definitely a better miter gauge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have not yet used this saw but it does... I have not yet used this saw but it does seem to be of good quality. I have raised and lowered the blade and it work smoothly. The fence adjust easily and the blade tilts effortlessly. I have found no problems with this was yet. I do really like the storage of the blade guard and push stick. Still trying to figure out where to store the miter gauge. I bought this saw to do small projects around the house and move outside or take with me on projects that does require the precision of my delta contractor saw. There were some reviews stating the miter slot was sloppy. In my opinion, the miter slot is fine. Again, this saw was designed for on site work not to make cabinets. I purchase the DWE74911 stand to go along with it. The stand makes it a lot easier to move around and supplies a stable base for the saw. Even though I have not use this saw yet, I am sure I will be pleased with the results and performance of the saw.

The saw does everything that I expected of it; however, on my second day of usage, it kicked out the circuit breaker when I turned it on. After inspecting and checking, I could not find any problems. I reset the circuit breaker, and it worked without any problems. I can only hope that this was an unusual event that does not repeat.

Works so well and the precision and clean cuts it's produced are what I was needing and looking for. The advertisement though is misleading... I only got the saw, no stand. I've not made big deal out of it, but it was disappointing when I did not get it exactly the way it is advertised.

This is one of the best table saws that I have ever been around. The fence system is fantastic it allows you to make large cuts for a saw with such a small footprint. It is well built and has plenty of power. The only draw back I can see is not being able to use a dado blade. For 95% of people this saw would be a great addition.
