Questions & Answers

What is the difference between the 780 and the 779?

Asked by: JJ
I bought the DWS779 last year and added the light myself. The parts cost me about $65. It works great! I highly recommend adding the light. The part numbers and installation instructions can befound on YouTube. I love my 779. It is a beast. Mine came with a 32 tooth Dewalt blade which I have used successfully for trim work but I will likely buy a 100 tooth for the smoothest finish.

15-Amp Corded 12 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Bonus Rolling Stand is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1029.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Miter Saw Stand I shopped around for a few months looking at all brands and models of miter saw stands. I was looking for a portable, functional, and heavy duty stand and this one meets all those needs. Not to mention the price which was awesome especially when compared to other stands. I put my Craftsman 12 in sliding miter saw on it. It bolted up to the adjustable table top without a problem. The stand itself was pretty easy to put together, maybe 30 min. The easy lift and fold works great. Even with the heavy miter saw on it the shock makes it easy to lift. The portability is awesome and I no longer need to pack that heavy miter saw around by hand! It also folds up nice which makes it easy to store. Most of the stores dont carry this stand (internet only) so you cant just go down to your local store and check it out, but it is well worth it if you are looking for a stand. The rigid one is also a pretty good stand for around the same price, almost went with it until I found this one. You wont be disappointed if you get the Dewalt Miter Saw Stand!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good stand, but has its shortcomings. Bought it today and put it together this evening. Instructions are horrible. It desperately needs an exploded diagram of all parts and what they are called. Carton 1 was actually carton 2, hardware bags 1-3 were in cartons 1 and 2 and were not labelled. Had to go ahead and assemble on blind faith that everything was there. Do not buy this if you want to store it upright with your saw on it. Per DeWalt, it is not intended for that and it will fall over. You are either going to have to lash it to the wall or go buy the Bosch for $300 instead. I am disappointed in the two heights-- was hoping the lower height would be good for my table saw and the upper height for my scroll saw and miter saw. At 6'3", the upper height is much too short for my liking, and the intermediate height (~3in lower) is worthless. For a 5'3" person, this would probably be useful. I'm keeping it, it seems to be a good product that I will use a lot, but it does have shortcomings.

I bought the DWS779 last year along with the Ridgid folding stand that is similar to the Dewalt stand inculed in this promotion. The Ridgid does not include the gas assisted raising and lowering but it's very easy to do. This Black Friday package is a fantastic deal! I paid way more than that for my saw and stand and got them both on sale. I love and highly recommend this saw and the portability of the stand. It's so nice to just fold it up and roll it out of the way for storage. I added the DWS780 light to my DWS779 and highly rcommend it. It's an accurate shadow line as opposed to a laser line that might not show the exact cut line. With the shadow line, you can line up cuts with the edge of the blade teeth and not just with the side of the blade. Instructions and part numbers for the light can be found on YouTube.

Pretty much comes right out of the box ready to go. Seems to have a lot of torque and cuts effortlessly. Needed the larger saw for cutting 2x8’s for a table I am building that my older saw would not cut. Cut the boards with ease. So far very happy and for the price range of $350 I couldn’t seem to beat it.

I decided to save on my new 12" miter saw but wanted a good/sturdy stand for it since this is just for a DYI'er. I'm somewhat disappointed with this stand because it cost almost as much as the saw I bought. Raising and lowering it is rather tricky and I expected more than this from Dewalt. After everything assembled I raised this into position or so I thought. 1st it wouldn't go any higher or lower than the mid height. I followed the cable down to where it meets the frame, removed the cover and what a disappointment! ! The 2 springs had come apart and would not stay together so the fun began. I had to adjust the cables at both the lever and frame. WHAT A PAIN WITH THE SAW MOUNTED! ! I even had to tighten the lever nut because the lever was very wobbly. As stated I expected more from Dewalt. At least they should've mentioned this in the manual on how to adjust if a problem developed with the cabling! It's still new so time will tell how well it holds up but at least it seems stable. Also there is a trick to operating and must raise up on stand before activating the lever to lower the stand. I uploaded pictures of where I had to make adjustments in the event you need to adjust yours. With all that said I would recommend this stand but the quality is more like a $100.00 stand instead of a $250.00 stand.

The blade is as expected - builder quality - so it needed to be upgraded for any serious finishing work. I would have given it 5 stars except for a couple of idiosyncracies. 1. the vertical travel stop needs to be "disengaged" in order to lower the head far enough to lock it for transport. If you forget to re-engage the stop before using it - you'll drive the blade into the bottom of the mitre table 'tongue". 2. The material clamps are sloppy and somewhat ineffective on narrow trim pieces. Overall though, once you get used to it - it's a good machine. The price was reduced since the DWS780 came out - making it a very good deal.

Saw is powerful and seems 90deg to fence and 90 vertical out of the box. I've ordered digital angle gauge to check bevels. If you make a cut with slider and push blade as far down as possible it will hit metal bracket in bottom of saw and ruin your blade. Hard to believe for a saw that has been made the same way for awhile. Work around is to set the depth gauge every time you open it. If you want to close and push in pin to lock blade down you have to disengage the depth gauge. I wonder how long it will be before I forget and ruin blade. Stand is stable and I needed to be able to roll saw out on drive or patio for projects. The release mechanism is flaky and the lift assist is lacking as you get the saw up to full height. It is very difficult to get up to full height because it fails to lock onto the top level most of the time. The pullout supports don't have the rollers for some reason. I've seen YouTube videos of this stand raising and lowering with ease. Also the handle feels like it will shear of the two small screws that hold it on. Perhaps the ones that fail inspection are handed over to Home Depot for Black Friday sales.
