AnswersImpact drivers are designed for screws and smaller lag bolts. Although it has basically the same operational value of a impact wrench they still are different. If a impact wrench is rated at 500 ft lbs it doesn't mean it can lay down that much force on any size bolt. For example a impact wrench is rated at 500 ft lbs on a 9/16 inch bolt. If you tighten a 3/4 inch bolt with the 500 ft lb impact wrench it will not be able to tighten a 3/4 inch bolt at 500 ft lbs. Use a cordless impact wrench rated at least 150 ft lbs for lug nits and use impact drivers for screws and heavy deck fastening. Do not use torx bits on impact wrenches to drive deck screws you will snap them off.

this impact is the toughest their is and has enough power to drive lags, deck screws, anything you throw at this dewalt 18 impact it can loosen or drive it in. i'm very happy with it just like it's 20 volt lithium "brother" both are insanely tough and i like that i can replace one small component (the brushes) for cheap and keep it both of my impacts going. TAKE that brushless tool's!. anyway i know these are great and i would recommend you purchase either this 18v or 20v or both they're great. i personally like dewalt and stanley tools and always will and NOT milwaukee or any other,

Just won't die
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this impact driver for at least 5 years if not 7. It has been used to build decks, remodel a church building into a coffee shop, build furniture, replace the head on a Mini Cooper, and everything in between. It's been through several batteries and continues to operate flawlessly. Much better for driving screws than your standard drill/driver, which is what this replaced when I bought it. Couldn't be happier.

Still Impacting after taking a swim
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was using this for attaching planking to a new dock. In my utmost stupidity I placed it on a section of decking. Of course when we moved the plank the impact driver gracefully slid off and went into the brackish water. Well I fished it out of about 18 inches of very cold water. Figured what the heck and pulled the trigger. IT STLL WORKED! and we went back to attaching decking.
