Questions & Answers

how long should the initial charge be

Asked by: carl
The initial charge for DEWALT battery packs is 1-2 hours. The light on the charger will blink on and off during the charging process and will remain on when the charging process is completed. You should re-charge the battery when you notice a significant decrease in tool performance.Battery packs should not be completely discharged before re-charging. Completely discharging a DEWALT battery pack may cause damage to the cells in the battery. Completeley running down a battery may damage it, resulting in decreased run time or early end of life. Battery packs can be left on the charger when not in use with no adverse effects and DEWALT batteries can be re-charged at any time during their use.

Are these interchangable with 14.4 Volt?

I have 14.4 volt drill. will these work with that?
Asked by: Milo
No, NO NO!! 18VDC batteries should ONLY be used with 18VDC tools - ONLY! I don't think they will fit, but trying to operate a 14.5VDC tool with an 18V battery will more than likely ruin that tool.

Is there any value or way to recycle or trade in old batteries that no longer hold a charge ?

Asked by: onesnowman
Once a battery is 'dead' there is nothing that you or I can do to bring it back to life. Turn it in to Home Depot to be re-cycled.

Actually, quite a bit longer than I would expect. The manufacturer, DeWalt, obviously markets these as a lost leader, since one can purchase a single battery for almost $90, a 2-pack as shown above for approx $100, or a combo drill, driver and some other tool plus a battery all for less than $170. Message? DeWalt makes more on the "limited life" battery than on the long-life tools they power. Therefore, it appears to be a 3-step win-win-win for the buyer, the seller and the manufacturer.

I bought this Battery Pack a few weeks ago, charged it up and it still has a charge. I don't use it every day but I do use it and it is still charged. Having a cordless drill, screw gun and circular saw, which this Battery supplies power to, is convenient and awesome. No cords, except for the radio that I use for charging the Battery, to get in the way.

DeWalt batteries are overpriced as it is, but it was nice to see a two pack on sale. The batteries work fine for what they are - but Ni-Cad is old technology. Power tool batteries are like printers, it's almost cheaper to buy a new tool/printer than it is to by new batteries/ink. Someday I'll get around to upgrading to new 20v tools!

Love DeWalt products...Ive had my DeWalt cordless drill for 8 years now, and the original battery has finally reached the point of dead cells. Glad that DeWalt still makes the 18v battery but now in a larger size (xrp)! Ive only had it for a week, but Im sure I'll get 8 plus years out of it!

I bought replacement XRP batteries in 2011 that have now worn out. Hope these new XRPs last that long. At $119 for two, they are expensive, but the 2.4 Ah rating is better than many of the off-brand equivalents.

Work great, last a long time and since there are 2 you can have one charged and ready to go as soon as the first one runs out of juice. The charger time is pretty quick too, I'd say in under an hour the batteries go from dead to fully charged.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DeWalt battery replacement Yes, it works. The number was not exactly a match to mine,I think it is an update with longer life (I hope). I had asked a HD floor clerk if that was a replacement but he didn't know.
