Well, they are advertised as "Provides up to 33% more capacity than standard 20V MAX batteries" which I dont quite understand as a 2 amp/hour battery should provide 4 amp hours regardless of being XR or not. Whether to buy XR or not depends on your budget and how often you use the batteries. If you are DIY and have a charger and a few 20v batteries, you probably dont need XR. If you are a pro and use the batteries daily and with heavy use, maybe the XR will work better for you.
