20 oz. 1-Piece Steel Claw Hammer

A great hammer. Feels well balanced. The magnet and tri-pull technology they’ve incorporated on the design is clever and very handy. The hammer itself looks awesome with the black powder coating and yellow rubber grip mould. I’ve had a few hammers over the years and recently I had an Estwing and a Milwaukee, but this dewalt takes the cake! I would highly recommend this hammer if your looks ng for a good 1. Value for money I reckon!

This 20 ounce high velocity style framing hammer has all of the features I wanted. The weight is ideal, the double side pulls for nails and construction staples is an excellent feature I really needed. I also prefer a smooth face and the magnetic nail set which this model has. Now for the disappointment. The hammer face is not flat, and it's not even close! Surprising that such a fundamental standard for this style hammer was overlooked. Next the Claws are not ground evenly nor are the ends the same thickness and it's not even close! Now this likely won't make a difference in performance I hope, but it's still irritating and an obvious display of the poor quality control they accept. Lastly the Nail set "T" area where the nail head should set is way off center! Castings age, and need to be redone every so often, Dewalt it's time to redo that casting! Other thoughts: The design is excellent but the actual finished product leaves me wishing for more. Maybe not more but at least what it has, but correctly fitted and finished. The grip is large and has a good size and shape, but it's really hard! I mean this may prove to be a long lasting handle but I'm not convinced it is as good as my 8 year old Kobalt or my 3 year old 17 ounce Milwaukee Framing hammer, both of which have grips that give just a bit and have a solid tactile grippier feel. Neither show any signs of wear. Frankly this Dewalt model feels like cheap hard plastic, I hope I'm wrong. The trapezoidal shape of the hammer face is an interesting shape and seems well suited. Okay the color theme of Dewalt is black and yellow gold, I get it but I'm not a huge fan of the bright yellow plastic handle, it's going look filthy real soon, and why paint the metal casting? There's no practical purpose only to give it the Dewalt color scheme, but now it will chip and wear away again needlessly marring and otherwise looking worn out sooner. With all that said even though I'm somewhat disappointed by the particular hammer I received, I'll give it a go but I'm already wondering if this is going to be the full featured hammer I was hoping for or will I be looking again for yet another one in the near future.

After my reliable 25-plus year-old wooden handle hammer finally broke, I went in search of a good quality hammer that would last me as long or longer. I am more of an occasional around the house user of tools, but I can see someone who needs a good hammer as part of regular use would like this as well. It is sturdy with a heat-treated one-piece steel shaft that should hold up to most situations. It is nicely weighted and comfortable to use with its padded grip, although I am not crazy about the yellow color. I like the fact that it has ways to remove the various types of nails you may come across including a finish nail puller, framing nail puller, a rip claw, and a staple remover as well as a magnetic nail starter, which I find the handiest. After using a smaller hammer in the meantime until I got this in and compared to my old wooden handle hammer, my arm gets less tired from using this and it has less reflex from the hit. I also like that this has a lifetime warranty, so I hopefully should never need another hammer again. Although I think this hammer is slightly pricey at just under 30 bucks, it is a well-made solid built to last hammer and does the job well. 4 stars On a side note: delivery to the HD locker at the store was a mess. Two messages with two different locker codes with both lockers empty..20 minutes of waiting for a employee to locate to package which was stored in a completely different locker than I was given the code for.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I do a lot of work that requires the use of various hammers and I was curious to see how the 20oz DeWALT (DWHT51380) would hold up. I was pleasantly surprised with the balance of the hammer with respect to carrying it and with each swing. The "nail set" is really helpful for holding nails in those tight places. The bonus for me are the two "nail-pulls" on the side of the hammer as well (two different styles). This ended up replacing a competitor's hammer as my new go-to. I'll mention this as well - the grip is really great - definitely an upgraded style from the last round of DeWALT hammers!

Good hammer, only thing it could of used is a waffle head.

This hammer is a great buy. While I will probably stick with Estwing hammers just because they have a certain feel to them that I’m stuck to, this hammer does it all and takes a lot of abuse. I’ve used this for framing, finish work, roofing, form carpentry and breaking concrete off of forms. I don’t find the nail setter that helpful because the pan is really shallow it seems but the side pullers are very effective. Overall hard to beat value.
