4 Gal. Portable Electric Air Compressor is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 91.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from This was the first DeWalt product that I have owned, and it will be the LAST DeWalt product I wil... This was the first DeWalt product that I have owned, and it will be the LAST DeWalt product I will ever buy. Right out of the box, I experienced the same cold weather starting problem so many other people have had. I called DeWalt customer service and explained the problem, and they agreed to replace my unit with another new one. When I started using the new replacement, I experienced the same cold weather starting problem that I had with the first compressor. Knowing there really isn't a fix for this problem, and tired of dealing with this well known quality issue, I pulled this unit from my shop and upgraded it with a QUALITY built Makita MAC5200. Makita seems to know that a compressor needs to be able to run in colder weather. Unless you live in an area that doesn't get below 45°, I strongly suggest you stay away from this DeWalt compressor....it is pure junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool used on the job site for 4 years Owned for 4 years and used professionally. Used for framing many decks, building fences, siding and a little roof framing. We do not treat it nicely, thrown in and out of the bed and trailer, left outside etc.. This is a middle ground compressor, do not think you can run a framing nailer continuously and don’t think you will be happy lugging it around a big home doing trim work. Been eyeing another compressor but this one won’t die.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid So Far, But Needs 20 Amp Circuit Thought I was doing something wrong though I was careful about following set up and break in instructions. Bottom line, she'd clearly start slow and cold and likely as not - would trip the built in overheat switch. Tried re-setting and powering up, but the switch would trip again. If I released all the pressure that was already in the tank, it *might* run correctly and build up to full pressure. Long story, I know. Friend suggested that even though the compressor is rated for 15 amps, I might try a 20 amp circuit. Problem solved. Been performing great since then, but I had to learn a lesson first.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 15 yrars and still going This is a great unit for homeowners and contractors. It will run tools, fill tires, and blow off dirt, dust, and grime from anything. The recovery when blowing is above average for a unit this small and portable. Best of all, it fits nicrly next to wall and i can still park 2 vehicles in garage. Ive tried oil free with no lick, so im sticking to my oil lubed dewalt. It is a workhorse!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good overall compressor Overall this compressor is good No major issues so far. The Power/hose adapter configuration in the back is a bit to be desired... Additionally the air bleed off valve was a bit touchy and tents to stay open. I have use mainly for smaller end less demanding projects.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Compressor won't start without help It worked fine for a couple months, but then it wouldn't start and would trip the reset switch. I have found that if I flip it on for 3 seconds then off and repeat about 10 times it will warm up enough to start. Once it starts the first time, it will run all day no problem. A person shouldn't have this kind of headaches with a new compressor.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Will not start with full pressure after sitting idle for a while When it works, it is a great compressor. The problem is - it does not always work. I brought it from HD, ran it for 20 min as recommended in the manual with opened valves, then took it out to the backyard for a nailing job. The air tanks were full when I took it out. Setting up the job took me a while (more then 30 min). I started nailing while the pressure was still around 125 psi. All went well until it was time for the compressor to start recharging the air tanks. It gave a whimpering sound and a quite buzzing sound and then blew the thermal fuse on the compressor. I waited for about 20 sec, pushed the fuse and tried to start it again. Same story. Then I decided to empty the tanks. Dropped tho pressure to almost 0 and then started the compressor. It worked. Until another idle period. I had to drop the pressure again to 0 and only then it would start. This happened EVERY time when the time between air tank recharges was longer than about 30 min. So if you shoot a lot of nails and the compressor kicks in every 5-10 min, all is well. If the job requires slow pace and the compressor has to be idle for more than 30 min, it will blow the fuse. What a disappointment. I have other DeWalt tools and never had any problems with them. Will try a different brand.
