Handle head interface not strong enough
Handle busted out and became detached from the head mid swing. Luckily it just kinda flopped off no injuries. This hammer saw minimal use, really just started using it consistently a few days ago so it didn't really last long. I expect a better handle head attachment for a hammer of this weight, i will not be buying another or any dewalt hammer for that matter and I don't even want a replacement. I have a 2.5lb hammer the same and it has held up under a lot more use.

This 2.5lb cross peen hammer's head came off ~45 minutes of use. it worked well before that happened though.

      Best for light use
I bought this hammer a little over a year ago for occasional use at work. The handle is comfortable to hold and the wide hammer striking face ensures you hit your target every time. I use this hammer to drive metal stakes into the ground once or twice a week to run geophysical equipment. There appears to be an issue with the attachment of the hammer to the handle. I was working alone at a very rural and remote job and using this hammer as usual. While striking the stake the hammer head completely came off the handle. The handle did not break. The plastic/epoxy surrounding the fiberglass handle failed and the hammer slid off! Luckily I had a different hammer on my truck and was able to finish my work. I don't know if this is a QC problem, design problem, or a one off failure but based on my experience I wouldn't recommend this hammer for anything more than light duty use.

        Well made hammer
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This hammer is a nice upgrade over previous hammer. Large size ideal for flattening and bending tasks. Comfortable handle is tapered to fit your grip and reduces vibrations. Head is hardened and has not shown any singles of deforming from use. Chisel point is slightly wider than the body and works well for shaping. Very good hammer for the price.

          Great product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great product the handle could be a little bigger to fit a hand for people with bigger hands

I like my new 2 ½ lbs. DeWalt Blacksmith Hammer. It is perfect for bending light weight steel in a bench top vice. The overstrike protection is great for the times I miss the mark of my intend blow. The handle grip feels secure in my hand with or without a leather glove on my hand. The beveled side of the hammer’s head is especially handy when peening a corner or edge of a metal piece. This hammer is great addition to my standard ball peen hammer.

DEWALT 4 LB Fiberglass Blacksmith Hammer is at the heavy end of a one hand sledge. I have a 2-pound hammer and wanted something with more heft for those tougher jobs. This hammer overall feels fine and well balanced, but you need a good arm. The fiberglass handle is long and you can choke up on it or use it with a full swing at about 12-inches long. The handle is sturdy with reinforcement around where it meets the head. Fiberglass absorbs some of the vibration, reduces fatigue, but didn't notice much in my using it. The blacksmith end of the head is nice to have for more precise concentrated strikes. Overall, it feels comfortable in the hand with a good size full length handle. I haven't been using it for blacksmith work, more as a hand sledge that's easier to work and better in tight spaces. The extra weight does make a difference in using it.
