A:  No it is a great generator, great quality

A:  Loud is relative of course. My generator's noise level equates to that of a gas powered push mower or slightly less. Not quiet but not overwhelming either. I hope this helps.

          3rd this year 2nd in 3 months.
1st pull rope goes because design you can't pull without it rubbing. 2nd outlets wear out so cords fall out. After that any number of things from no electricity, dies for whatever reason, parts fall off...etc. Depot replaces them if in 3 months but it's gotten to the point with all the down time and having a crew wait for someone to go find another one that we cut the loss and get a real generator because at 92 days the mechanic at least has a donor to get parts from

            Ok in a pinch
I bought the generator for a power outage. It ran the appliances that I needed. Only issue I had is that it didnt come with the handle and the motor is very loud. I would only recommend this for a jobsite, not residential or camping. It also had a hard time starting.

This was ordered online and shipped to my home without any issues. There is minimal assembly required on this generator. You have to attach the wheels, the front bumpers, and the pivoting handle and that's it. Then you'll need to remove a red shipping bracket that is used to keep the motor locked to the frame and add oil (included) and fuel to the tank and you're ready to get started. To start this generator, you'll need to flip to switch to ON, open the fuel line, and turn on the choke (next to the air filter) and then pull the tether to start the motor. I got it on the second pull the first time I started the motor. There is a floating gas gauge that will show you how much fuel is left in the tank. a digital read out that will tell you how many hours the motor has ran as well as three sets of electrical outlets 2 sets of 20 amp outlets and a single 30a outlet. There is also a Co2 detector on the front of this that will kill the generator if too much is detected. So far we've used this to power some household appliances to test as well as our camptrailer to power the entire thing as well as recharge the batteries. all in all it's been a great generator and it will get plenty of use. Hopefully for more recreation purposes and not for emergency purposes. But if we need it, i'm glad we have it.

Dewalt has another home run. This generator will be my back up generator and for use in my out buildings that have no power hook up. These is some minor assembly required, installing the foot pads, wheels and fold-able handle for moving unit around. All in all after assembly and adding the required oil, which came with the unit. in 15 minutes it was running and working fine. They even sent a nice funnel to aid in filling the oil sump....... Besides the typical 110 V outlets, it has a 30 Amp outlet for use with a twist lock extension cord. This twist lock feature will come in very nice when using the generator for power tools and other outdoor related use.... This is a very welcome addition to my shop equipment. Thanks Dewalt.

The 4000 watt gas operated generator is absolutely a fine piece of equipment. It was simple and fast to set up and started on the first pull! My son immediately put it to use on a construction job site and is raving about the ease of portability and plenty of wattage to power his circular saw and chop saw simultaneously with no loss of power! This is one quality generator and will last a lifetime with normal routine preventive maintenance! Thank you Home Depot Seeds Program!

Next day after the generator arrived, to unpacked it, installed the wheels, handle. Then poured the oil that included to the engine. Filled gas in the tank. the engine started on the first rope pull. The unit ran smoothly. I have this new generator as my extra for emergency home use. The generator is very heavy. It is 129 lbs. I used it on a heavy duty dolly with bundles to hold it first, then to move it around to set it up to a utility shed. Hooked to the electric wires to go under my deck to guest bed room for ready to plug in asap when there is no power. a few days ago there was no power due to DUI driver hitting the street light to knock the pole down with power lights down. The generator started on first rope pull. Then went inside to set up the wires to plug in my refrigerator, one box fan. They run fine as if I had power in the house. Till the power came back on. They run good on first time use.

This generator, which will appeal to those looking to power a moderate amount of single phase 120 volt, 60 Hz loads, has quite a few pluses (and several minuses). Arriving well packed for shipment some assembly is required; however a “Quick-Setup” card will lead one through the assembly of the wheels, handle and feet rather quickly. A spark plug wrench is included for future maintenance use, though not required for initial assembly. Not noted in the Quick-Setup instructions, but called out on a separate tag on the unit is the need to remove a shipping bracket (painted a bright red for identification) prior to operating the generator (in order to allow the elastomeric mounts provide vibration isolation). Although this generator is described in the product description as “electric start”, it is manual (pull rope) start only. It is, however, quite easy to start with one or two pulls. Included with the generator is a bottle of oil for the initial fill (along with a funnel shaped to facilitate pouring the oil in the fill opening without spilling it). Once installed, the handle is easily folded for storage, or extended for ease in moving the (120 pound dry weight) machine about. A spring-loaded detent secures the handle in either the extended or folded position. The wheels (solid rubber tire with plastic hubs) mount to axle pins secured with spring clips (making removal, if desired for fixed mounting, quite easy). The integral 3.4 gallon fuel tank (which has a fuel level gauge installed) is rated by the manufacturer as providing 10 hours of operation at half rated load, requiring a sufficient store of gasoline on hand should there be a prolonged power outage. There is a (metal) quarter turn shut-off valve to shut off fuel to the engine which is handy if one wants to run the engine “dry” for storage, as well as minimizing the possibility of fuel leaks. The generator is provided with a “run-off” switch and separate overcurrent protective device for each of the three circuits (two 20Amp and one 30 Amp), though, due to the really good paint (powder coat?) finish, the knurled nuts securing the protective devices are not conductively connected to the frame/ground. Two 20 amp duplex receptacles (NEMA 5-20R)are installed as is one 30 amp twist-lock receptacle (NEMA L5-30R). When the unit is running the supplied hourmeter will indicate the total operating time accrued and will display a message at 100 hour and 200 hour intervals to remind one to change the oil and clean/replace the air cleaner. The air cleaner is a washable/replaceable foam filter that is easily accessed without the use of tools. A Carbon Monoxide sensor/shutdown is provided and, if the levels of CO rise to dangerous levels it will shut the engine down. The engine will also shut down automatically if the engine oil level falls below the required level. The oil drain plug is easily accessed for oil changes. The generator is rated for 4,000 watts “running” load and 5,000 watts “surge” load. Again…this is a SINGLE PHASE 120 VOLT MACHINE. The engine operates at 3600 RPM and, at ten feet a sound level of approximately 80 dBA was measured. This is not a low noise machine. To test the generator operationally, after filling the crankcase with oil and the fuel tank with gasoline, it started up quickly with two pulls of the starter rope (recoil type, though a little awkwardly located) and easily started and operated a 200psi, 4.5 gallon “portable” air compressor (which drew in excess of 13 amps) with no difficulty (though the output waveform was slightly distorted under load-see photos). In addition, I used it to power a stick welder to weld using 3/32 inch 6013 rod. There was adequate power to successfully complete the weld. Other than the sound level, the lack of 240 volt output and the fuel consumption the only other major concern was the note in the manual that after 50 hours the intake and exhaust valve clearance needs to be checked and, if needed, adjusted. There is no additional instruction supplied so it is expected that one will have to purchase a separate engine manual or take the unit to a service center. As many will buy this machine to have on hand if needed for a power outage and after a severe storm one could easily operate the machine in excess of 50 hours, the need for a 50 hour valve clearance measurement/adjustment will require that you rack up 50 hours of operation before the unit is needed for an emergency in order to make this measurement/adjustment.

The Dewalt 4000-watt portable generator that I've been wanting and needing came yesterday. Upon assembly [which is very easy following the instructions], I've placed it in my garage near the outside door and my freezer for convenience. If another hurricane comes through here [like Florence and Matthew did in recent years and knock out the electricity] I'm ready! This generator is just perfect for what my needs are during an outage. It's portable on wheels which means that I will easily be able to roll it outside for safety when it's running. This unit by the DeWalt manufacturer also came with a starter bottle of proper engine oil designed for this generator. While I hope that I don't experience an electrical outage ever again, realistically it probably will happen sometime. I am so pleased with this new unit and how well it ran for its test run yesterday. Thank you to the DeWalt company and I will be recommending to all my friends that they too purchase this generator!

The unmistakable yellow and black color associated with the name DeWalt the step above quality in tools and generators. DeWalt teamed up with the step above manufacturer of generators Generac to create this heavy duty generator. Living in Louisiana along the Gulf Coast, we are prone to hurricanes striking our coast line. I needed a generator that I could depend upon when I needed it. That was the reason I chose the DeWalt 4000 watt generator. This generator is packed with features you would expect to find on a Dewalt product. Has 3 total 110 volt receptacles. 2 of the receptacles are protected by 20 amp resettable breakers are double receptacles( total of 4-20 amp) and one 30 amp resettable breaker. Has a low oil level shutdown, has a built in carbon monoxide detector that will shutdown the generator in the event of carbon monoxide build up and comes with a hour meter that tracks hours of operation for scheduled maintenance. Is equipped with a 223cc engine, a fuel tank that holds 3.4 gallons of gasoline. This gasoline capacity will last roughly 10 hours of runtime at 50% load and less time with full load of 4000 watt usage. The surge watts at start of the generator is 5000 watts. I've learned the best way to determine wattage need for any particular appliance is to check the voltage used and the amps on the info tag then multiply the volts X amps (example 115 volts x 5 amps = 575 watts). Some appliances will spike at a higher wattage needed such as a freezer or refrigerator or an air conditioner when the compressor of that particular unit cycles on. The DeWalt generator is warranted for 3 years from date of purchase and covers any defects due to faulty materials or workmanship. MADE IN THE GOOD OLD USA!!
