Questions & Answers

Which specific charger is included?

Which specific charger is included?
Asked by: Jr
It comes with the DCB115 charger, which WILL charge the 60-Volt Flexvolt battery. I had the same problem initially as well. When placing the large 60-Volt battery in the charger you have to make sure you click the battery ALL the way in to the charger. It will give a little first click that will make the charging lights come on, but not charge the battery. Make sure you get it pushed in all the way in to the second click all in one motion and you will get it to charge just fine.

What is the difference between the DCST970X1s and theDCST970X1?
Asked by: Lars
I called Dewalt directly and had my call elavated to engineering level and all they would tell me is the the -S is the Home Depot store version. They said Dewalt does not have a -S version in there system. Home Deport will order the DCST970X1 but they do not carry this part number in the store. The dimensions show to be different between the two for over all height, Width and depth (-S being smaller) and $20 price tag difference also. would need to compare two actual trimmer models to verify dimensions. I purchased the -S version and have used it once so far and I was impressed by its power to cut tall grass.

DEWALT 60-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless FLEXVOLT Brushless 15 in. String Grass Trimmer w/ (1) 3.0Ah Battery and Charger is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 222.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from I bought this hoping to do away with a mix... I bought this hoping to do away with a mix gas trimmer. I also own several Dewalt battery powered tools so thought it would be a good fit as I thought the batteries are interchangable. For information, the 20V batteries cant go into this. I have a 1/2 acre yard that just needs to be edged after mowing. I did not buy this expecting that it would do heavy trim work. I have tested and confirmed that it is not able to get through sticker bushes so it is limited in its usage. My main complaint is that the battery does not last the entire job which takes about 40 mintues to complete. Also, the rear shield is so small, I get pelted with debris often. My final complaint is that longer grass gets under the spool holder and has to be pulled out or the auto line feed wont work.. This would be good for a smaller yard but for what this trimmer costs, you could buy a pretty nice gas trimmer. This is the first dewalt tool I have been disappointed in. I would not buy it again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY! COMES W WRONG CHARGER what others have said is 100% true. Dewalt is shipping this trimmer with the wrong charger (db115) which can only charge up to a 20v battery. It says so right on it! After all night on the charger, the battery only shows one bar. This trimmer should come with the 118 model charger, which puts out enough amperage to charge the 60v battery. Sure, you can buy that charger, but it's almost $100. Dewalt has not responded to emails regarding the situation, so this unit is being exchanged today for the E-go, which my brother has and loves. It's a shame, because this seems to be a really nice trimmer and has a great feel in hand and is nicely balanced. I got 20 minutes out of one bar of battery, so the thing will likely run for a full hour with a properly charged battery. As others have said, the "guard" is a joke and stuff will hit your legs, but I am a former landscaper accustomed to a Shindaiwa with no guard (and I'm not a wuss) so this didn't bother me.

I have been using DeWalt Power tools for the last 15 years, and while I had the occasional quality issue, like a wavy table on my table saw, all products were fit for their purpose. This trimmer however is a total miss on usability. Apparently some overpaid beancounter decided that it is a good idea to have a shield that covers only an angle of about 10 degrees. If you are thinner than 10 inches and are directly behind the machine, you are somewhat ok. If your body is any wider than 10 inches you get hit with grass, pieces of thorny weeds, dirt, etc. In addition it is nearly impossible to do edging with this machine. And the string that comes with it is better used for flying kites than trying to cut any serious weeds. I tried this machine for 20 minutes and decided to return it. On a positive note, I like the quality. the whole machine feels very solid. The bump feeding is a bit annoying. My neighbor's B&D has some kind of auto feed mechanism which just requires a few seconds without load. This is in my opinion a lot better. DeWalt product engineering and their beancounters need to get a grip on usability.

Designed either by someone who has never used a string trimmer, or a marketing genius.... It works well, the battery holds plenty of charge and there is definitely enough torque to do all the trimming necessary on an average size yard each week, even on overgrown or really thick grass & weeds. The string feeds easily and the spool is easy to remove to refill, unlike certain gas powered trimmers. BUT...the guard for the trimmer head is only about 5" wide, which means you'll be COVERED in grass clippings from the waist down after only a few minutes of trimming. The owner's manual, on page 9 (which is actually page 11 in the .pdf download), helpfully mentions there is a larger, 15", guard that can be purchased and even gives part #90624357 which returns as "not found" on DeWalt's website. A google search for "Dewalt 60V string trimmer extended guard" comes back with part #"N512929 GUARD", which DOES appear to be the correct piece according to the DeWalt website. So for another couple dollar plus shipping, you can safely weed whack without coating your entire lower body in green gunk. I can't imaging anyone NOT buying one after using the trimmer in it's original configuration, so...Marketing genius!

Just as other people have mentioned, there is something wrong with the charger or battery. after being plugged in for over a day the charger says fully charged. When you unplug the battery and test the battery only shows 1 bar of battery charged. Have tried this multiple times already. Will be returning this and getting an Ego. It's such a shame since I do love all my dewalt tools and having one single battery type is convenient and saves a lot of money. Also the guard is way too small, completely useless in my opinion and why doesn't this come with a fast load spool? To make this competitive with other cordless trimmers I need to spend a lot more money upgrading the spool and the guard and buying the proper charger and battery....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The Fyre Festival of cordless tools I have gone through two of these trimmers in less than 5 days. They have both died completely after about 30 minutes of use. I have spent more time driving back/forth to Home Depot than trimming weeds. My experience has been similar to other 1-star reviewers. I suspect that there is a major issue with these units that is not being addressed. Dewalt must know by now that a large proportion of these are going to fail within minutes, but appears to want to sell through them anyway. BTW, I'm not a Dewalt hater. I love my Flexvolt table saw (so far) and I swear by their miter saws. Dewalt: feel free to let me know when you resolve the issue with this trimmer.

I am rethinking my loyalty to the DeWalt product line. I bought the last model with a 40 volt battery. It died a couple months after the warranty ran out. The 2 batteries and charger are useless to use on any other of their products that I know of. I read the reviews online about that weed eater. All complaints are about the longevity of use. I called DeWalt myself. They are of little help. We will gladly sell you new parts, she said. Looks like they are the same but with different battery connections. I suppose the next generation after this one will also have different connections for the batteries as well. Stihl makes a cordless weed eater. More expensive but they have always stood behind their products and want loyal customers. Read all the consumer opinions online before making any purchase. I will for now on.

Great battery life, good balance due to motor being on trimmer head, lots of control of speed with HI/LOW switch as well as variable speed trigger. With it had a quick feed for trimmer line like other manufacturers, but it is still simple to add line. I would recommend picking up high quality line in the smaller 0.80 size to keep the drag minimal for motor. Dewalt has provided excellent customer service for me so far as well.
