What Country are they made in?

Answer

HI Cookie, I checked the DEWALT website and did not see the USA emblem on this product, which is their way of noting made in the USA products, so I assume it was not assembled in the the U.S. Hope this helps.

are these good for 14 gauge wire

Answer

Hi petrel76, You have selected an excellent set of pliers/wire cutters. 14AWG wire is no problem for this tool and should leave you with a smooth cut due to the smaller size of 14 gauge wire. Hope this helps.

Place the item on a table with the "DeWalt" inscription facing up. Approximately 1 inch down from the inscription you'll see the chrome "lock" turned sideways. Slide the fatter, elevated, right side of the "lock" down and toward the left. This will unlock your device and you'll be ready to use it! Once you have completed your task, slide the lock back up and to the right to relock it. Happy Pliering!

They will cut wire clothes hangers and popsicle sticks. They will not cut Romex bigger than 14/2 very well.

Lifetime warranty is not worth it
Customer review from dewalt.com logo
I bought these 7 years ago and used them very little. Maybe 5-6 times a year to cut electrical cables.Took it out today to do the same and it wasn't cutting properly. I looked at it and a chunk the size and shape of 12ga wire was missing in the middle of one of the blades. I checked the 'lifetime warranty' and you have to ship the tool to the repair depot to see if it 'qualifies' for the warranty. The cost to ship these to the repair depot is likely what a replacement would cost so its not worth it.

No more struggling with cutting small protruding nails that drive too far when I build bird houses. I had be using a traditional "wire" cutter like this one, only old school. And it was a difficult cut, sometimes impossible (and required grinding the nail with a small grinder tool). With this new tool cutting nails off is easy peasy. Why didn't you invent this tool years ago. This is a must-have tool!!!! Now, make another with longer handles for cutting even thicker metal. I'll buy that one too. The pic I included is how I used this cutter to cut off interior protruding nails when I attached the front perch extension on a birdhouse entry hole. Very tight working space too. Of course I cut them earlier and repainted the inside. But you get my drift.

I recently bought these to replace an earlier model I had . They seem like nice pliers but unlike the older ones, the handles are stamped and rolled which results in a lot of flex. Even when cutting 12/2 Romex, the handles flex enough that the handle ends touch before cutting through the material. These are useless for anything other than cutting zip-ties and single conductors. I'm a big Dewalt fan, but these were a real dissapointment.

I've owned no less than a dozen of these tools and used them for my wiring business for the past 6 years. On Nov 19, 2017 I purchased another pair, noting that the design of the tool had changed yet part number was the same. The new tool was surprising total junk. It had trouble cutting 18 AWG wire (see pic). Wiring is our business and these used to be the best tools: they were sharp, effective and pretty ergonomic. They are our go-to diag cutters. However, they are not the same product anymore. Look at the picture - the cutting edges don't even line up. I don't know if I just got a bad pair, but even that says something about poor quality control. They are going back as soon as I can get there.
