Can I use this to assemble a shademobile rolling umbrella base? It uses #8 x 1-1/2" Phillips Head Screws.
Asked by: Linda
Yes, if the base will fit into the tool it will work. I put together an entire sauna on a single charge. This tool is amazing.

Asked by: Richard
It uses a hex drive, anything you can get with a hex shank. I believe hex shank drill bits exist.

Will it only operate motion active? Does it have a triggerl?

Asked by: austintechsaudio
You hold a trigger that has a lock to keep you from pressing by accident. Then you twist... also works vertically. The button sets the starting point. You hold it down and then twist.

8-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion 1/4 in. Hex Cordless Gyroscopic Screwdriver with Battery 1Ah, 1-Hour Charger is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 194.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most convenient tool I have ever used! Extremely well thought out tool. I am a professional Handyman and I often find myself trying to hold something in place with one hand, and drive screws with the other. This is the perfect tool for the job. Forget bulky impact drivers and even compact drills, the degree of control that this tool gives you is beyond description. The ability to go forwards or reverse, fast or slow just by how you turn your wrist is the ultimate in ergonomic design. I look at a a tool and compare the price to not only the materials and workmanship, but also how much time and effort it will save me. On that basis this tool is WORTH THREE TIMES THE PRICE!

I just installed 12 led puck under three kitchen cabinets and I shortened the wires on each by a little over half. A total of 5 screws per puck to get to the point where you can unsolder and resolder. Went quickly and smoothly. I won't give it five stars because I feel the gyro switch is just so much creeping feature-itist. True it may last longer than a variable speed trigger with a reverse switch, but we haven't gotten that far yet. The one thing that you can be sure of is that my DC825 can snap just about any fastener, weighs a ton, and with it I would stand up to someone pointing a 9mm at me. They wouldn't stand a chance. RIght tool for the right job.

Once you get used to the "intuitveness" of this tool it is a great battery powered screwdriver. It is not for buillding decks or heavy work obviously, but for lighter duty this thing really saves a person's old wrist. It does have plenty of torque, more than enough for it's intended fastner applications. I wouldn't mind it coming with a case either but I bought a heavy duty see through latched storage box at an office supply store and it is stronger and I'm sure less money than the additional dollars they would charge if it did come with the tool. I guarantee that you will use this thing more than you might think. Very versatile.

I reach for it first for jobs that dont require high torque. At first, i thought that the lack of torque would be a negative for this tool. But as i began to use this tool more frequently, it became a positive because i didnt have to worry about stripping screws. If i need more torque, i will reach for my 12v or 18v impact driver. It does take some getting use to. But nothing one cant master with a little work of the wrist. The more you rotate your wrist, the greater the power that the tool applies. The bulky feel of the tool is quickly overcome. Another thing that the user loses is the "feel" of how much force the user is applying as the screw is being tightened. Battery run time has been a non-issue for me.

Seem the smaller the battery, the more they want ($) to replace it. When the cost of a new battery is one half the cost of a new tool, some thought must be given to accountability. What they do is drive consumers to replace their battery from other sources at a much lesser cost, or turn to other manufacturers. DeWalt makes a good product, but I think they lose sight of the replacement picture. I hate to think of any tool as a throwaway, but this brings it close to that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spectacular Nice surprise - it works beautifully. I purchased this "minimal" version, as I figure that a delicate touch won't need a torque limiter, and that the pistol grip version isn't really needed for so small a tool - if'n yer wrists are strong enough! Also, I figured that Delta or not, the rotation to pistol conformation will either twist something internal, or necessitate a sliding contact, either of which can fail prematurely - "stuff what bends breaks, and stuff what rubs gets tired." The light actually works well - possibly a first among tool mfgrs. Its weight is perfect, the Li-ion battery is very long-lived, and the speed range is excellent.. This thing has earned a home in my toolbox. Instructions are clear, but not cyrstalline. To operate, simply hold tool with the black "run" switch down - depress the switch and the tool will "growl" - that's the signal that it's ready to go. While still holding the switch "on", very slowly turn your wrist outward to start slow rotation. It need not be a fast twist. To gain speed, simply keep twisting your wrist in the same direction. To reduce speed, just turn your wrist back. At the start or "zero" point, rotation will stop and the tool will again "growl" at the start position for as long as the button is depressed. The full speed range is accessible with about 0-45 degrees of wrist rotation. The control is sensitive, repeats nicely, and changes steadily as the wrist is turned. Same is true for opposite turning direction. As a "righty" I find that clockwise bit rotation is most easily controlled if I start with the inner side of my right wrist vertical - that allows best speed control as I twist to the right. For left rotation, it seems to work best if I rotate the wrist to that 45-deg-right orientation before turning it on - that allows for greatest control of counter-clockwise bit rotation. For lefties, just reverse the method. Obviously in either case, the tool (or bit) must be rotated sufficiently to fully engage the screw head before squeezing the "on" switch. Knowing your reasonable limits of wrist rotation is the reference for deciding whether to orient the bit manually before engaging. I've read some reviews (not here) that the tool's just not any good. Baloney. It's excellent, but shouldn't be viewed as a slam-bang construction tool - rather, it's suited for more delicate and fussy work with smaller screws. It's especially handy for those long ones in electrical boxes, for example, that require a zillion turns to seat or to turn back out. Excellent also on sheet metal screws. If you're not sensitive to subtle tool feedback, then the torque-limiting model may be better for you. In any case, be aware that it's torquey, and has the capability of damaging a small non-hardened screw head if not sensibly controlled. I wouldn't expect to use it for driving long wood screws for the first time and without a pilot hole - that can be a bit much for a small tool. However, it's perfect for their removal and re-installation. I appreciate the free-running collar at the bit, which enables very fine control and maintenance of bit location when working with small screws. The tool's simply very well-thought-out, and does its job with typical Delta precision.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Clever but no Muscle! Gyro feature was reason I bought one. Wanted Pistol style but not stocked. Use would be small for me so went for the "Pencil" model. Should have thought about the voltage though as this hasn't much umph! My primary use would be to do electrical work, panel cover removal, minor changes, tight spaces etc. It just doesn't have the beef to pull tight screws from electrical panel covers let alone tighten screws on grounds etc., let alone run the screws on an outlet in or out. Gyro feature is its only strong point. Dewalt needs to come back with a real battery. This is at its limit putting cover plates on outlets. This feature should be on their bigger drills of which I have three on hand for most jobs, one for phillips, one for square bits and a third for drilling or whatever else comes along.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handyman must have!!! I bought this right around Christmas time when It was on sale. I used it all week after closing on our new house for outlet covers, putting furniture together, hanging towel bars ect. Has a great battery life and is the perfect size. Better for smaller projects than my 20v max tools.
