I am having a problem Loading the staples into the gun and the sliding bar will not for some reason go below the staples and allow me to lock the staples in place. Is there a secret to this as it is a brand new stapler right out of the package. Unfortunately I do not have the package it came in anymore with any instructions on how to operate it.
Asked by: Gregory
The sliding bar is not supposed to go below the staples. It should come right against the staplers and push the staplers against the edge of the compartment. Press the end clip and then pull the sliding bar completely out. Install the staplers with the sharp point up into the chamber. Push the sliding bar forward until it click. Then you're ready to go. Test it with the first fire into a bag to make sure staplers are loaded correctly. If this doesn't work, maybe you should take it back to HD for a replacement.

What size staples does it take and can I use it to staple a half inch thick carpet runner to my hard wood stairs

This gun uses T50 sized staples. I haven't seen staples for this gun longer than a 1/2 inch so you may need a more substantial gun.

I am getting very inconsistent results on how far the .5" staples will go into particle board. Some go all the way in, most go about 3/4 of the way in. I am consistent in ensuring the front of the stapler with the guide is flush on the board. Am I missing something? Is there a way to adjust and lock in the depth?

I have never had much success with that either. And the electric staple guns have the same problem. I have used this exact model for hundreds of staples, but frankly often ended up going back and using a tack hammer to finish the staples. Just today I had the same problem, so I switched to an electric staple gun, and it had the very same issue, and so I switched from 1/2" to 3/8" staples. I was stapling some screening material into treated wood on a screen house. Yet, I still had to go back and tack down some of the 3/8" staples, no matter what setting I used. I guess we need a staple gun contest to find out if any of these staple guns can really sink a 1/2' staple.

Have an old arrow that was getting sticky so got this one. It misfires so much I'm lucky to get one staple with every 15 to 20 misfires. Seems to be I'm not the only one with this problem. Thought Dewalt would be better than this.

I used it successfully one time several weeks ago. Today, when I went to use it for the SECOND time, the trigger mechanism failed. No matter what I try, I cannot get the trigger to fire/click. I emptied the unit and was able to dry fire it several times. When I reload the staples the unit will not fire. I have emptied and reloaded several times and I have the same problem. The trigger will simply not engage with staples in it. In case you are wondering, "no, there are no staples jammed inside." I used my cheaper Arrow staple gun successfully for many years until someone "borrowed" it. I thought DeWalt would be an upgrade. I was wrong. Stay away.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from TIME WASTER Purchased tool to hang Christmas light on exterior and trees. Took me 45 minutes to hang three strands on one tree... Problem is staples constantly jam, literally once A MINUTE! I used several small links of staples, then 2 half links and finally 1 full link, hoping the problem would be solved. It never did. Exchanging at home depot today for a traditional Arrow stapler with 5k 4.5star reviews.

Buy a different staple gun, even if you have to drive to a different store! This was practically the only one left in the rack and I felt lucky to get it, until it stopped working after hardly any use. The concept of lighter compression required for firing is not enough to overcome the poor performance. Brand new tool, after just ONE hour of stapling lightweight batting to 4 pine chair seats, went from the occasional misfire to misfiring about every 3 or 4 staples, then a rate of one fire out of half a dozen attempts, to finally zero. After just so-so performance with only 2 bars/cartridges of staples, it wouldn't fire any more at all. Tried compression from slightly different places along the handle, varied grip techniques, checking and opening/shutting the cartridge chamber securely, changing the angle it was held, emptying out and reinserting new staple cartridges, etc. No way to get inside it to see what the issue is, so taking this "lemon" back and getting something else that will allow me to finish my work.

It handles a wide variety of staples and at consistent depths without over penetration. It can be a little difficult to push, while it is not a problem on the range, a full day of hanging insulation maybe different.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality, doesnt engage the staple and jams up Bought to install attic vent baffles, have to click it 10 times to get 1 staple..if it doesn't jam first. Very frustrating when your on your back in attic and it doesn't work... total waste of money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Jams a lot. I think this stapler must like reggae, 'cause it be jammin'...a lot! It does an ok job when it doesn't jam, but that's what it should do, anyway. I do not recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money Will not fire staples into soft pine. Jams as often as it fires. Halfway through a stick it won't feed at all. Absolutely worthless.
