If you want to build a shelf, get a board that's long enough.

Where is the user manual?

There isn't one as I recalled. It's a straight forward tool and I don't think Dewalt provides one. If you need to know what size of staplers it uses, there is a label showing various sizes at the side of the base of the tool.

Heavy duty staples are normally T50 and you can find it at Home Depot or your local hardware stores. They come in various length, and the length is depending on what material you're using. The thicker the material, the longer the staples.

No, the staples may compress or break the insulation leading to shorts or wire failure. A gun using round head staples should be used for wiring. Mike

It depends on the size staples you purchase. Staples come in various lengths, so you will have to check which size you'll need when you see the specifications. It takes ARROW STAPLES T50, but I happened to have some Stanley staples on hand and they also worked for me.

The sliding bar is not supposed to go below the staples. It should come right against the staplers and push the staplers against the edge of the compartment. Press the end clip and then pull the sliding bar completely out. Install the staplers with the sharp point up into the chamber. Push the sliding bar forward until it click. Then you're ready to go. Test it with the first fire into a bag to make sure staplers are loaded correctly. If this doesn't work, maybe you should take it back to HD for a replacement.

I purchased the staple gun to finish off a seating/storage bench I made. The stapler was easy to load and takes many different lengths. Trigger didn't take too much pressure to use. I was real happy with the results. I used a gray materiel and some padding on top of plywood. Also the tool is easy to find in my tool bag because it is bright yellow.

I bought this to help put up insulation and plastic sheeting in my garage. The gun works very well and is extremely simple to refill. Using your body weight and with the gun level you get very good results. I had no issues using about 1000 staples with this gun. The only catch is it seems to waste about 3-5 staples when you replace with a new set. Not a big deal but worth noting.

i used this staple gun to install a vapor barrier in the crawl space of a homeowner and used it to staple screens onto attic windows. i really like this staple gun, it is much easier to squeeze then the old staple guns. also for me the belt clip was a huge win, when i was up in attics or in crawl spaces i need both hands and being able to clip this to my belt and move around was key. i have also put over 500,000 staples through this gun and no jams. my only knock on this is when overhead stapling the bar that locks the handle down, locks down and after every staple you have to reset it
