Answer This Question

A:  All of that brand is made in Italy. I have standardized on that brand for all of my blade applications since they last longer and are balanced better.

Q:i want to cut 1/16" thick paper tubes with a smooth cut. what blade do i use.

    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Not sure a miter saw is appropriate as it may be too much energy depending on the density of the paper tubes. The 90 tooth Diablo blade may give you the cut you want so be sure to run a couple test cuts. If the material is dense enough, consider using a pipe cutter with a new blade.

$25 Harbor Freight blade cuts better.
This is not a finish blade. I can get better results with $25 Harbor Freight blade. Look at my picture, first cut, brand new blade. Does this look like a super fine cut? It's not worth the extra $50 in my opinion.

Diablo makes excellent saw blades. This blade was advertised to give a finish cut with the equivalent surface of a 220 grit sanding. Well, we did the test and took a couple of samples, sanded one to 150 grit, one to 220, and one to 320. Then we made our cuts. They matched the 220 grit sample. So, no additional sanding needed on the end cuts of our closet cleats and shelving. Great product.

        Works for melamine
Needed a new blade as my old one lost a couple of carbide tips, and I needed to cut melamine for a small job, without chipping, at least on one side. I read the description and it said it would so, it being significantly less cash than a melamine specific blade, I picked it up. Worked beautifully. Had one or 2 minor chips on the back side, but I wasn't using a zero clearance insert and I probably pushed the board a little too fast. Very happy I got the results I needed for a significant savings. Red arrows are the cut edge. The back side had no chips above the red arrow, and a few below.

I was feeling a little salty because of the price tag, but am now pleasantly surprised with the performance. Cuts wood like butter compared to the dewalt blade that came with my miter saw. Maybe smooth is a better adjective. I even tried it on finished acacia flooring that claims to have 9 layers of aluminum oxide. Mainly did it just for this review. Still a silky smooth cut and no fraying of the end granes! Didn't expect that. I didn't notice any odd behavior or sound from the blade. Performed great. I added pictures, but just note that it's tough to show the performance of any piece of hardware with auto-cropped and resized photos... Pros: smooth, clean cuts Cons: price Unknown: longevity. I've only had this for about a month and mad maybe 100 cuts on pine and poplar, so I can't really say much about the durability. If I must have a clean cut and needed a blade again, I would sacrifice the cash to pay for it, though begrudgingly.

Not quite "flawless" but pretty bloody good. As you can see in sample trim cut image, the blade does splinter on the up stroke. So make sure that is the back of the work. Cuts a 2x4 like butter, of course, and provides a nice, super-clean edge with which to work later. Yep... "flawless" claim issue notwithstanding, the Daiblo 12" x 100 is a solid addition to the workshop.
