Q:Will this work with a Hercules 11 Amp 4-1/2 In. Paddle Switch Angle Grinder model HE61P? It has a 5/8 arbor. So far, the backing pads I have tried will fit the grinder, but the added thickness of the sanding disc is too much to attach to the spindle.

A: Hi Jeff! The Diablo Connection Pad is ideal for converting a traditional PSA sanding base (rubber or foam) to a Hook and Loop base. To connect, clean the existing PSA base with some cleaner such as acetone and allow to dry. Once dry, remove backing and stick the adhesive side to the sanding base.

lost time
Diablo Tools fails, indication of the intended technique or correct method of attaching the "Grit Disk" to "Back Up Pad". lacking even a photograph or diagram showing a viewpoint of a disk securely attached to a pad, the customer is faced with guesswork, well i can theorize and guess all day long. The promotional video touting Diablo expertise as a toolmaker for over 50 years is good, have a little respect for the buyer is better, please, a simple representative photo will suffice.

Big outside paint job on an old farm house with lots of pealing paint. After scraping most of the loose paint, I am using this pad on my 4 1/2" angle grinder with 36 & 50 grit pads to remove additional loose paint and feather out the edges. Had a different brand that was hard rubber and it tore when it go caught under an edge.. This sanding pad is more rigid and doesn't tear when it edges catch under the lapped boards. As long as you keep moving, sanding pads won't quickly gunk up with paint. And a little more cost effective than the flap sanding disks. Have some tight spots on columns. Wish they made a smaller one.

This review is for the Diablo 4 ½” x 5/8” 50-Grit Grinder/Sander Conversion Kit, model # DCP045VGPS01G.
I purchased the Diablo kit as an accessory to my Milwaukee angle grinder, model 6141-30.
The Diablo kit is rated for a maximum of 13,280 RPM so there was no issue with using it on the 12,000 RPM grinder. The spindle size (5/8”) was a perfect match.
See your grinder manual for the best way to install the Diablo conversion kit onto your grinder; apparently some makes/models of grinders have “quick attach” adapters or some other such features which make the installation somewhat more challenging. For my application the Diablo went right onto my Milwaukee. I’m not a professional metal worker, just a DIY home owner, so YMMV.
There’s enough flex in the rubber backing to allow the sanding disk to get into edges and crannies and such and the 50-grit disk I found to be quite aggressive. (I’m working on some metal doors and a careful touch is needed not to mar the surface of the metal. Again, I’m not an expert at using an angle grinder, I just wanted a quick way to remove some old paint and such).
From my limited usage, I’ve found that the Diablo kit worked “as advertised” for my project.
Safety gear is a must – eye protection (I wear safety glasses and a full-face shield), hand protection (I wear leather gloves) and a respirator is recommended when sanding creates dust or fumes (different respirators and masks are designed for different applications).
I’m happy with the price point, the quality, and the usability of the conversion kit.
HTH
Regards,
Jim

Nice kit, easy fix to mount the disks.
Nice quality and it works. Had to cut 4 1/2" long slits in the hole on the abrasive disks to allow the spindle nut to be threaded onto the grinder spindle. Abrasive disks are thick and ridged which makes them durable but hard to mount without the slight modification.

The locknut is too small
The locknut supplied is notably thin, which makes it challenging to remove when you need to change the media. Its material thickness is roughly 1/16 (0.065) of an inch. Ideally, it should be at least 1/8 (0.125) of an inch thick. For comparison, the locknut of my air grinder pad, which I bought three decades ago, is nearly 3/16 (0.1875) of an inch thick.
