5 in. 100-Grit Universal Hole Random Orbital Sanding Disc with Hook and Lock Backing (50-Pack)

I’ve had excellent success with Diablo saw blades, 6” to 12” and every router bit has performed as expected or better. Now for my first Diablo disappointment. I’ve used Norton ProSand 5” & 6” hook and loop sanding discs for several years with great satisfaction. When I went to my local supplier to restock, I found they had discontinued handling them. Thought this would be a good time to try Diablos 5” ceramic blend discs. Had a Norton 80 grit disc in my sander, used that for a bit then decided to switch to a new Diablo 80 grit. Worked well for about 10 minutes, it drastically slowed removing material, checked it and the disc was coming apart, literally. Thought maybe it was a fluke, bad disc, put on another, same thing. Decided to finish with the Norton, the previously used Norton disc did as much as 2 new Diablos and didn’t disintegrate. Diablos granules quickly fell off, the backer tore and the disc became unusable. Extremely disappointed given Diablo has been so reliable with so many other products. Please see my attached pics.

I had bought the 50 pack 120 grit because I do woodwork which requires a lot of sanding & you could not beat the price. In the pack there was these washable reusable sanding pads skeptical to use it on the mahogany I just set them aside. Well today after a few hours of scraping adhesive off of concrete I wondered how those Diablo sanding pads would do with my sander, they were phenomenal!!! No chemicals, presoaking the floor w/ vinegar & dawn

The disc made the job of refinishing several outdoor chairs easy to apply the paint. Without the disc the job would have taken several hours; having the disc helped to reduce the time to roughly an hour. The finish was smooth to the touch.

I used these a couple years back and didn’t have a problem. We bought 2 big packs recently and the back of the disks with the hook N pile or Velcro cloth was so thin it tore to shreds after 3-5 minutes of use. I went through several disc until I just bought a different brand. The maker must be going cheap on the material.

A few sanding discs worked fine but then i started getting swirls in my wood. I switched to several other new discs and i noticed small red particles were coming off before even using it. Needless to say this is what was causing the swirls in my table. This sandpaper would work for sanding surfaces that swirls don't matter but not my application.

I stripped and entire living room floor using these on a hand sander. that is right, I crawled on my side over an entire floor sanding it with a palm sander because it was face nailed and I wanted to do it that way. I did not have a single bad disc in the 50 pack, every one held well to the sander and lasted a reasonable amount of area. I was able to remove a painted on "rug" with just four discs, see photos. I can't say much about paper loading because I used a Dustopper to keep the dust down and I believe that prevented me from loading the paper. Not like I have a lot of choice at the Depot, but I will use this brand again. Once I got my disc changing rhythm down the job went really well.
