Hi Rich, Yes these discs will work for sanding drywall.

How do the hook&look backing attach to my Dewalt 6420 disc sander?

Asked by Ken June 20, 2020

Answers

Hi Ken, Yes the Dewalt 6420 is a hook and loop sander and it will work with these discs. To attach, take the disc, align the holes on the disc with the holes on the sander and press it onto the sander. Will these work on a Festool sander?

If the Festool takes hook and loop and is 5" it should take it just fine. Also Festool probably has way better dust collection than mine and I prefer this to the regular aluminum oxide disks when it comes to that.

How do these attach to and work with a hook & loop sander?

It does work on a hook and loop. It also comes with a supplemental pad if you need to convert yours.

Does he Diablo universal random orbital sanding disc attach to a Porter Cable 334? The sander came with discs that were glued on.

Depends, if it feels almost like a velcro where the pad goes it takes a hook and loop pad. If it is smooth it takes an adhesive pad. You have to know what type your sander is and look at the packaging on the sanding discs.

Quality has gone down hill
I have been using these Diablo sanding disks for the last 2 years without any complaints, they have been great on my Makita Sander but I'm sad to say either I got a bad batch or their quality inspection department has been seriously slacking on how much glue they are now using. I purchased the 120-Grit a few days ago along with another Grit and every other sanding disk is ripping off the backing and is totally useless. I'm going to take it back up to the store and request an exchange for a new pack but leaving a review so hopefully it's just a fluke.

Diablo 5” sandpaper is great, I get better use from these then other brands. One disc will last longer then using 2-3 disc’s of some other brands, this is why I use Diablo for all my sanding and cutting needs.

Garbage
I have never used this brand before, but it was in stock and I was here. Needless to say this is like using notebook paper to sand with. I used at least twice as much as any other brand I have ever used!!!! The sheets are unbelievably thin.... Highly disappointed with this product!!

These are great sanding pads and work perfectly with our Ryobi 5" orbital sander. If the surface is dry, the pads don't clog and last quite a while. We bought them primarily to sand some new cedar and pine wood and 4' x 8' siding panels for a porch project. The pack we bought had some 'bonus' pads in it including a new backing pad which helped strengthen the adhesion of the existing hook and loop backing pad on our sander (which was getting a bit worn). Consequently, we didn't experience too many pads flying off while in use. I have tried other brands of sanding pad from HD's competitors and they just don't seem to stick to the sander as well as these Diablo pads do. Our porch was pretty big at around 500 square feet and we still had pads left over after we'd sanded all the beams and rafters as well as around 370 square feet of T1-11 siding that we used for the roof deck. Subsequently we've used them to sand down a dresser that we bought from the local Goodwill store and upcycled and they work just as well removing paint and stain as they do sanding down bare wood. We were so impressed with their performance that we recently bought a pack of 60 grit pads for a job we were doing to paint an exterior porch floor.

Perhaps this product would have done better if the surface were completely flat, or didn't have any roughness to the surface finish. The grit in the sand net came off throughout the applicator and the edges frayed far faster than the well backed traditional sandpaper that came with the sanding tool. The photo taken was after 8-10 minutes of sanding a rail on a deck. The wood itself was ok, but the paint I was trying to remove was peeling, which should not have damaged the sand net. The sand net in this photo was 80 grit and I returned the 120 grit pack due to poor performance of the more abrasive 80 grit. You can see the darker spots where the grit remains and the lighter areas are just fabric. The edges are frayed as a result of trying to smooth out the surface of the wood and make it a more rounded edge. The deck rail was routed with a mostly rounded edge, but did have a bit of an edge to it that I was trying to remove, and this was not handled well by the sand net.

SandNet is far better than the conventional sand"paper". The "net" design allows the sanded material to pass through into the sanders vacuum system (for sanders that have vacuum holes in the sanding pad). This feature alone helps the sanding but should the SandNet "load-up" it can be washed - something I can't do with my conventional sandpaper. The kits includes everything to convert a hook-loop sander to the SandNet. There is an intermediate pad that goes between the sander hook-loop and the SandNet disc. This applicator allows the sanded material to pass through the sanding disc versus load it up. The applicator is hook-loop as well so it just sets on the sanders hook-loop pad then apply the disc to the applicator hook-loop. The disc is a screen like material that contains the sanding grit. The screen sands the material and the sanding dust just passes right through. Better sanding is less time!

The best sanding disc for the money
5 IN. 120-GRIT UNIVERSAL HOLE RANDOM ORBITAL SANDING DISC WITH HOOK AND LOCK BACKING (50-PACK) are the best for the money. I am a Bathtub Refinisher and I use them every day on my jobs sanding down bodyfiller. They hold up longer then Gator Disc from Lowe's.

High Quality
I have sanded probably 500 board feet in the last few months and made the mistake with going with a green label from the blue store. Two mistakes I won't make again. I bought some of these when the others would just spin off my sander when I was refinishing some stairs. I was able to get through 12 stairs front and back with a single disc. I used 3 of the green labeled ones on a similar project. These are the best I have used. My sander actually burned out before I used up the first disc I put on.
