I used the smallest (5/32") drill to get deep into some very hard knotty pine. It went in slowly as expected from a drill of this type, but it did the job and didn't break even when I put a little sideways pressure on it. What I did not expect was that the black coating was stipped off from the drill after this single use. I later used the largest (3/8") drill to punch through a concrete paver just to see how it would go. See the video link in this review for that.

Ha! I think, the toughest thing about these drills is the packaging. It took me forever to figure out that the plastic case opens in the middle. So I get these DIABLO MULTI-MATERIAL CARBIDE TIPPED HAMMER DRILL BITS -- these SUPER DRILL BITS -- and I chuck one up in my drill and... meh. It was okay, it made nice holes, but nothing extraordinary, nothing I would really describe as super. BUT THEN, I realized that I had not engaged the HAMMER option on my drill. Once I did, the drills bits cut thru ANYTHING. EXTRAORDINARY? SUPER? You betcha'!

My new DIABLO Multi-Material Carbide Tipped Hammer Drill Bits worked great except for drilling 1/4 inch steel. The drill bits are designed for use with tile, masonry, concrete, wood and steel. The sizes in the pack include 5/32, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 of an inch in diameter. The carbide tip is hardened to extend life and the shaft is fluted to remove dust/chip build up. The drill bits are intended for use in corded or cordless impact and drill drives. DIOBLO specifically states not to use the bits in a drill press. For my trials, I used only the ¼ inch bit. My first trial was drilling through a piece of porcelain tile. The bit made slow but steady progress through the tile. I placed a little water in the hole to see if this would increase the rate. The rate slowed down, so I dumped the water out changed and changed the drill to a different hammer drill. The new hammer was more pronounced than my other drill and did much better. I completed the ¼ inch hole without breaking the tile. My second trial was through a piece 4x4 inch spruce. The drill rate through the wood was relatively quick. The fluted shaft did a good job of removing chips and saw dust. My 3rd trial was through a piece of ¼ inch steel. I soon as I started drilling, I could see the multi-purpose drill was going to struggle drilling through the steel. I drilled about 2 minutes without any real progress through the steel. I took a picture to show the lack of progress. For comparison I grabbed a drill bit intended for steel from my toolbox and it took about 30 seconds to drill the quarter inch hole. I took a picture of the 2 different drill bits and the finished hole. I think the DIABLO Multi-Material drill bits will work well with every stated material except steel. I think the drill pack would be handy for a mobile craftsman working different job sites on a regular basis.

Good strong bits for drilling into many different kinds of materials. The set comes with 5 different sizes for various projects. They are really long bits, like 6 inches, so works well with going through brick, tile, etc. I used these to put some nails on concrete to hang my mailbox. It went through with no problem and the holes came out clean. I only used it for 4 nail holes, but they do seem to hold up well. I also used against plastic on my planter pots and created nice uniform holes easily.

This set of DIABLO Multi-Material Carbide Tipped Hammer Drill Bits performed surprisingly well. I had doubts they could handle multiple types of material and outperform dedicated material bits but they did indeed succeed. I performed comparison testing with the DIABLO Multi-Material bits, DIABLO SPEEDemon masonry bits, brand B masonry bits and brand B&D general purpose bits. For the masonry test I drilled five holes per bit all using a brand M hammer drill with the M12 battery system. All three 3/16 inch bits were new out of the package. The average drill through time on a 2.25” thick concrete paver for brand B was 22.474 seconds, the DIABLO SPEEDemon had an average of 18.616 seconds and the DIABLO Multi-Material Carbide bit had an average of 14.702 seconds. Having the Multi-Material bit outperform the dedicated masonry bit from the same company really surprised me. Comparing the holes drilled in the paver, the DIABLO bits absolutely left a cleaner and more uniform hole. I also noticed the DIABLO bits pulled the debris out of the hole while drilling much better than brand B. For the metal test I drilled through 1/8 inch steel with the brand B&D general purpose bit and the DIABLO Multi-Material Carbide bit. Once again I was surprised the multi-material bit outperformed the general purpose bit. The general purpose bit took 55.83 seconds compared to the DIABLO Multi-Material Carbide bit which took 41.07 seconds. The DIABLO bits feature a hex shaft that will be gripped by a drill chuck much better preventing spinout. They can also be used in an impact driver but from a speed perspective a hammer drill is far superior. The case for the bits is a sleeve design with indents to ensure it does not slide open on its own. Bits included are the following sizes: 5/32, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8.

These are an okay set of all-in-one bits to have around the workshop. They perform best in masonry like brick and cinder block. They can also drill steel but slowly and they will go through wood but you need to apply pressure. They have fairly long-lasting carbide tips which seem to have a sharper angle for wood and metal cutting. The diameter of the bits are 5/32", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8". These bits are 5-7/8" in total length but you can only drill to a depth of about 4-3/8". The bits have a hex end and will fit in a standard chuck or in a hex driver, so they are great for my drill/hammer drill with a keyless chuck. This is great to prevent slippage. Product origin is China.

A very handy set, 5 of the most common smaller sizes. Each bit is 6" long, see photo for individual bit sizes. The shank features a hex head with the groove needed for proper hammering function, but unlike its larger hammer bit big brother does not have the flange the precludes use in a standard drill/driver. I have only used the smallest bit thus far and it did the job I needed done in mere seconds. A nice set to have on hand indeed.

This a nice set of drill bits. They are for use in a hammer drill, where maximum drill speeds is 2,000 RPM. Don't use them with a regular variable-speed drill where speeds exceed 2,000 RPM. It can be used for tile (ceramic), masonry (bricks), concrete, wood and metal. The bits come in a reusable storage case and come in popular sizes of 5/32", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8". The length of the drill bits are 6" and the length of the cutting area is between 3 1/4" to 3 1/2". The build quality and materials used for the bits are excellent. My expectations have been exceeded.

I recently received the DIABLO MULTI-MATERIAL CARBIDE TIPPED HAMMER DRILL BIT SET (5-PIECES). Like all of Diablo's blades & Bits they work great. With the carbide tipped bits they cut thought, cinder block, red bricks and concrete very easy. When I replace blades and bits, I always choose Diablo. I drilled 2, 3/8 holes though a red brick to see how it worked and I was very happy how quick it went though the brick. This is a very good product.

This Diablo set is a nice addition to my tool arsenal. They are made for hammer drills and impact drivers and have the “hex base”. They will also fit into a drill driver with a standard chuck with mode settings for drilling, hammer drilling, and screwing. This is a 5 piece set: 5/32”, 3/16”, 1/4”, 5/16”, and 3/8”. The plastic case is also the storage and carry case. The bits, according to Diablo, are rated for wood, metal, concrete, masonry, and tile. They are 6” long. The length is a little more than the 4” bits commonly used with an impact driver. Diablo also represents that the bits are strengthened for the impact force and torque, especially with the longer length. I used them in both types of drill/drivers. Of course, they drill easily through wood. They also performed well on concrete block, brick and 1/16”thick metal. I had more difficulty going through 3/8” ceramic tile, but did get the hole. The drill bit was quite warm. I drilled another hole with a bit which I have used for tile and it was just a little faster. Diablo suggests starting to drill at low RPM and increase gradually. That does help prevent drift on hard surfaces. Also do not apply excessive pressure. Diablo warns not to use the drill bits in a drill press. For most DIY projects it is convenient not having to switch out bits for different materials. I have not had the set long enough to comment on how they hold up after repeated multi material uses, but I like the performance so far.
