Q:Can I use this to fix a rainbird line repair?
by|Jul 27, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  I believe rainbird’s tubing is smaller than .700 OD so the C33 compression coupling will not work for your repair. I would recommend using our universal nut lock coupling C53. If you have any further questions please contact our technical service/product support line at 1-800-322-9146.

Q:What is the best way to get it fully inserted, having a difficult time.

A:  There is no easy way. If you are careful you can heat up the end of the fitting with a lighter and see if that helps.

A:  You don't have to get it fully inserted. 1/4 to 1/2 inch will do. Easier when warm and wet.

A:  Just push. Push it real good.

A:  Something I've done in the past is put the poly irrigation line in the hot sun for awhile to make it more malleable (in the winter really hot water works too)

Q:Does this work for regular sprinkler irrigation? Not drip.

            Answer This Question

A:  No, this fitting is only for (low pressure) drip tubing, and it should not be used on a sprinkler system.

A:  These couplings only work with 1/2" irrigation line, but they do withstand standard household water pressures, so if you have the proper couplings to go from 1/2" drip line to your sprinklers they should work.

A:  I believe this pipe is specifically designed for the DIG system (or similar), as you can puncture holes in it to attach their other appurtenances. I think other pipe available would be more appropriate for a traditional under ground irrigation system.

A:  to my knowledge these fittings only work with Poly Drip Irrigation Tubing. If this is the type of line/tubing you are using then yes.

A:  Yes, I used it to repair a non-pvc sprinkler line. The pressure is much higher than a drip line but it has worked fine.

A:  It works to splice the underground 1/2" supply line.

                      by|Jun 18, 2019

A:  It will work but not very good not meant to have high pressure like a normal sprinkler

A:  This is a compression coupling for 1/2in poly tubing. Poly tubing irrigation is used above or below ground for drip irrigation in gardens. That said, you could also run 'sprinkler' style heads off a poly tubing-supplied watering system. It is not generally used for full-size lawn sprinklers - due to the restricted capacity of a 1/2in tube as opposed to the 'standard' use of 3/4in PVC pipe - which is far more durable than poly-tubing. That said, I have used above-ground poly-tubing fed full-size pop-up sprinklers to was a section of my backyard lawn that did not have installed PVC pipes. Though it works, you have to keep an eye on it to ensure the compression couplings haven't slipped and you have sliced or punched holes into the poly-tubing. So, in a pinch, yes you could use this for a sprinkler but it is not at all advised.

A:  The Despot sells nylon reducers. 1" to 1/2" barbed on both ends would work (with hose clamps). They are white, UV might damage them after a while.

A:  Yes, you will need to purchase a 1x1/2" sprinkler saddle tee to make that transition.

                          by|May 4, 2023

A:  I dont know if a 1 x 1 x1/2" tee is available, but thats what you need. Maybe you can get a 1 x 1 x 1 tee and find a reducer fitting that goes from 1" to 1/2" for the 1/2" spur.

A:  My old drip line uses PVC pipe to 1/2 in. risers to fittings that acccept several 1/4 in. tubing lines. I do have one 1/2 in. dripper line that comes off a sprinkler manifold so I think parts are available for your project. I'd ask a irrigation guy at Home Depot or at one of the local specialty sprinkler stores.

Doesn't work on old brown bubbler
Trying to fix a cut on my .65in OD bubbler. Made a clean cut on both ends and pushed this in. It won't hold the pressure and starts squirting out water on one end. Home depot doesn't sell the ones you insert. Frustrating on what should be a 5 min fix. Probably works fine on same branded hose.
