Do these Rose Bushes do well in Clay

Asked by Diane June 24, 2020

Answer

I have various Drift and Knockout roses planted in our clay soil. I did amend the soil a bit with compost when I planted them. The roses do well as long as I remember to spray them with deer and rabbit repellent. Deer tend to eat both kinds, and rabbits eat the smaller roses.

These roses are really poor quality and really small! They look like they are 1/2 gallon size plants that were transplanted into 2 gallon containers just prior to shipping (due to the 2 gallon selling price) and the look nothing like the pictures on Home Depot's website! So, essentially Home Depot charged double what my local nursery does (which unfortunately did not have them in stock) for plants that are about 1/3 the size that my local nursery carries! I need to state that this really is a Home Depot vendor issue (Baucoms Nursery). The order was placed with Home Depot and, their vendor, Baucoms Nursery fulfilled the order. Home Depot did not ship it and never saw it. So, at the end of the day Baucoms Nursery screwed Home Depot and created ill will between Home Depot and me, Home Depot's Customer! Nevertheless, at the end of the day, Home Depot needs to manage their vendor, so the inferior, over-priced product is intrinsically their responsibility. Thank you for sending me an inferior product at a very high price!

This plant is absolutely beautiful! It came shipped in a box with blooms which lasted several days, and after planting, it really took off! I would definitely purchase more of these.

I ordered three of these and they all arrived well packaged and alive. There were several buds on each plant, but none had bloomed yet. I planted them the same day as delivery and so far they are thriving! They all have tons of blooms. I love the color variations. The roses range from the softest pink to a deep coral. They are beautiful.

Rose came with block spot diseases Right out of the box. Now I either fight the disease or trash the plant.

Plant arrived in poor condition. Half the leaves are yellow. Too pricey for condition it is in, may not survive. Last time we buy plants online. We are both incapacitated, which left going to nursery impossible this year.

This is a beautiful rose bush, and I'm very pleased with the color and fragrance. The blooms start out orange, then turn a lovely pink. My only problem with it was our sudden intense cloudy and humid weather which brought on some aphids and powdery mildew. I remedied that with an all natural pesticide spray which removed the aphids. I treated the powdery mildew with a homemade solution of milk and water - spraying a few times a week. It looks like it has the mildew under control. I'm hoping our sun will begin shining more often than not, so I can enjoy these fabulous blooms!
