Questions & Answers

after two coats, do I have to prime or can I go straight to reg coat of paint?

I just painted two coats of Dry Lock this weekend on Cinder block walls in my basement. I would like to slap on a final coat of paint and move on to the next project but thought I had better check to see if a primer coat was required. The Dry Lock had some discoloring in areas of the wall.
Asked by: Ronn
No, you do not need to use a primer over DRYLOK® before applying a good quality latex base paint.

Can this be used on the inside of a concrete fish pond?

Asked by: Yo
Be careful of toxicity to fish, check ingredients for conformity.

Would this work to seal a crack in basemet wall foundation where water is seeping in? And also on exterior foundation?

Asked by: Rakel
For a below grade basement wall of either brick, block or that has either of these and been coated with cement or paint, and has water seepage, when you plug one crack, hydrostatuc pressure from rain will simply push wstee through another weak area in the wall. I found that digging out all i vious cracks to remove loose material (especially the crack where the wall meets the floor, and using hydraulic cement as a parge or "skim" coat about 1/4" thick, stopped the seepage. I coated the area from the floor (and out from the wall @3") to a point @4 feet high. Hydraulic cement is sold at home depot and lows. Look for it in a bag, not the small tub.

This products works very good when applied correctly and used as a sealer. It is not meant to stop "niagara falls" . When applying you can initially use a roller but you'll need to brush the product into the concrete holes/cravases. My basement is dryer than ever and does not sweat. My dehumidifier in " auto " mode used to run all the time now it runs half the time. Plus the basement area does not lose as much heat. My basement stays 5 degrees warmer...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This paint stops water! I have a 170 year old house in northern New England that for the past 10 years has had anywhere from a half an inch to 4 inches of water in the basement every spring, that is until recently. Two years ago I painted the brick wall in the back and all of the floors and even the stone walls of my basement with Dryloc and this spring the basement was finally dry. Maybe I was just lucky but I put it on concrete and brick that was quite damp (although clean) and have had zero issues with any pealing or bubbling of any kind. Have the paint associate mix it for you as its been on the shelf and is very think so its hard to get it mixed well at home. Great product that certainly worked for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I could have imagined! I had an unfinished basement room that leaked water through cracks in several places because the grade outside sloped towards the house and there wasn't much I could do, long story. Anyways, I thought I would have to dig up around the foundation and waterproof from the outside but after looking all over online I came across Drylok. It claimed to be able to waterproof from the inside so I decided to give it a try. I put 2 coats on approx 300 sq ft area(took 5.5 gallons) and it worked perfectly! I even flooded my foundation outside with water just to test it. No leaks at all! I've never taken the time to write a review before but I was so pleased with the results I just had to let others out there know that basement waterproofing can actually be done quickly and cheaply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A-W-S-O-M-E!!!!!!! Look, if you're looking to to stop a leak..... This is it! I literally had small geyser spurting out of my floor and my basement walls. Im a DIYer and had no funds to call a waterproofer. It was a nightmare to say the least. So, I took a chance and two coats, and two years later its still holding up. After hurricane Irene, Sandy gave us no flooding!! Or geysers! Thank goodness for this product!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is the best purchase ever made! I rent a room in a water damage basement. black mildew all over the place. Had no other place to go, I was homeless and refused to go to a shelter. The man who gave me room, painted it the best he could. So I thought. Three months of living there, I noticed mildew on my suitcase and leather items. The new sheet rock he replaced was already being damaged by the dampness and the outside rain. He stated he would have to replace the sheet rock, but never did. I told him that if he can't do it then I will. So washed the mildew areas with water and chlorine mix and waited for it to dry. The next day he came in with a can of Dryloc waterproofing paint. I have been here now for almost a year, and no MILDEW and no dampness. Oh..forgot to tell you I am a female. Anyone can do it. So I thought I thank you all for an awesome product, and I highly recommend it! From Lizette, NYC

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Best Purchase Never Stinks to heck, extremely thick to apply, doesn't bond if your have serious enough water pressure, and now I have mold growing on my walls. It's a terrible product and I've found out now that locking water in my walls is actually softening the concrete blocks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OUTSTANDING PRODUCT WHEN USED CORRECTLY AS WITH ALL WATERPROOFING PRODUCT, THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP IS PREPING THE SURFACE OF THE WALL, OR FLOOR THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO WATERPROOF, I HAVE USED THIS PRODUCT A FEW TIMES AND IT HAVE NOT LET ME DOWN YET. I PERSONALY PREFER USING THE WATERBASE INSTEAD OF THE OILBASE OF THIS PRODUCT. SO AGAIN PREP THE SURFACE OF WHAT EVER YOU ARE TRYING TO WATERPROOF. OUTSTANDING PRODUCT HANDSDOWN...... P.S. TRY USING A MURIATIC BASE CLEANING PRODUCT TO PREP YOUR SURFACE....
