Q:Can I install a bathtub over this tile
      by|Mar 3, 2022
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Brenda, traditional bathtubs are unable to be installed over this tile. You will need to install tile around the bathtub while leaving a 1/4" expansion gap between the tub and the tile. This gap should be filled with 100% silicon caulking for a water-tight seal. If you are installing a claw foot tub it can be placed ontop of the tile however, you will need a disapation plate under each foot to evenly distribute the weight onto the tile. Feel free to call our toll-free number 877-757-8421 for any further questions you may have.

I love this tile! I didn't know what to expect, but once I figured the it out I plan to never go back to regular tile if I can avoid it. First, I love that the to is free floating. A friend is tearing up his tile and it is a painstaking messy job trying to break it off the concrete. If you need to take this doesn't just break one and it will start to peel up. It seems like that makes these reusable as well. But maybe in years I'll find out. It is heavy enough that it doesn't move. And the underpayment protects as well. Putting this together is so easy. I love how the gaps are perfect because of how they go together on their bases. No small spacers and crooked lines. The color and style is excellent and modern. I really love everything about this tile and will buy again.

I am very impressed with the look and feel of these tiles. They are well made. Each individual tile weighs approximately 5 pounds, they are very durable and should last a lifetime. They measure 24 inches x 6 inches. There is an interlocking edge on one 24 inch side, to lock into adjoining tile. The 6 inch sides slide together. Great care should be used when working with these tiles, taking care not to drop, fit is very precise,. Be sure to use underlayment, and when finished installing, grout all the joints. Cuts should be made using wet cutter or score and snap tile cutter, do not use dry cutting saw, silica dust results and is very bad for your health.

I installed this Quicktile 6x24 in. River Wood Matte Porcelain in my Kitchen. It is a little over 300 square feet, and it was a little harder than the box indicated. Tile in a day must be for smaller jobs, it took me 3 days to get the tile laid and another to Grout. Go to the Home Depot website if you have not laid this type of tile, you will find the information very helpful and when they say do small areas when grouting, believe it. I was doing 6 sf at a time and the grout was getting firm before I was done. The tile locks together really well and holds together, after it was laid you could easily walk around on it without moving the pieces. My only issue was the Grout availability, I ordered short because the bucket said it would cover up to to 80 SF. with a 5/15 gap and this is much less. My first 9 lb. bucket cover about 52 SF. and I had already internet ordered the second container. Then I ordered 2 more containers, so my job went very slowly. That was not an issue, I have lots of time and when I was setting the tile I made sure every piece was perfectly aligned, and when you look down the longest line which is 28 feet, the tile line is perfectly straight. Which means the quality of the tile is impressive, it certainly was not my expertise that made it straight. My order was for 330 SF of tile and only 3 pieces were broken on the corners, which I was still able to use on cut pieces. So, all in all I have a beautiful kitchen floor that has bragging rights and the great feeling that I did it myself. I am totally ecstatic.

          Tile is beautiful
This tile is beautiful. Fairly easy to install but not a room a day. 1000 sq ft took 5 days to install without grouting time. However the grout is just short of garbage. I grouted the tile and let it to cure the recommended amount of time. Within 6 months the grout was lifting. I could remove sections of grout with a vacuum cleaner. Re-grouted with the same result. I would give the tile 4+ stars but the grout is 1- star. Quite a few locking edges were broken but was able to use for cuts.

The tile is beautiful. But, the plastic locking rails are way to brittle and break way to easily with normal handling. Also, this is supposed to be a floating floor, but if there is the slightest gap between the floor and tile where they lock together, the plastic rail will break when you walk on it. Not recommended for the average do it yourselfer, even if you have done self locking tile before

Response from Daltile SupportNov 16, 2021
Being a unique hybrid, QuicTile shares the installation techniques of both tile and click floors. All 12”x24” porcelain tiles are very heavy and care must be used when handling. Some amount of broken/missing click edges are acceptable. Note that the click system is primarily for spacing, not for bonding, leaving the correct 1/8” space for the grout to enter. It is the tremendous gripping power of the urethane grout the holds the flooring together and in place. So some chipping will not affect the flooring, but be sure to keep the grooves clear so the fits are tight. Please call us if this is a concern while installing. We offer our toll-free customer service line at 1-877-757-8421 for anyone having difficulties during installation, this includes professionals.

              Don't overlook QuicTile
The handyman said it was great to install. It clicks together and then grout it to finish things up. It looks great and should last forever.
