Q:How has nobody ever asked what size area this can be expected to be effective in? If you have a large living space can one 5lb cover an area roughly 20? x 20?, or would it only be effective in a smaller area??

Q:I used 2 of the 5 lb in my basement. I saw very little water in the bottom basin. All the crystals are still in the top and appear to be loaded with moisture. it is almost as if it is one solid block of crystals. Is this normal?

The small size containers need refilling too often. This holds a large amount of crystals so can be left alone longer. Also as it has a lid, light weight items can be stacked on top, such as shoes, so it’s a better use of space

I have used Damp Rid for several years and this is the first time I have seen it in such a large container. This will be very handy for use in an under stairs storage closet that gets little ventilation. In the summer months I am always emptying the small cups after the crystals have dissolved hoping to not tip them over when I am rummaging through the closet. These large trays with a cover on top will probably last all summer and will not tip over easily. They really do prevent a musty smell from developing!

I was introduced to the DampRid products when I was having the grout redone in my shower many years ago. They have me put a fan on my shower and the DampRid product in the shower stall to dry it out before they did their work. The stuff really works!!
Since then, I've been one of the DampRid products in my walk-in closet in my Master Bathroom. This 80 oz extra large product will last a LOT longer than the other DampRid product that I was using , which was placed on clothing bar in the closet. I'd forget to check it and before you knew it, the bag was full of water and time to put in a new one. With this BIG unit, I will be able to go a VERY long time before having to empty it out.
I can see this would work great in a basement or other damp rooms. I did have to find place on a shelf for this as I didn't want to put it on the floor as I have cats who might try to open it up.
And you can buy refills and keep using the same receptacle over and over again.

This container of DampRid is perfect for a large area. It measures 17" long, 6" tall and 9" wide. The container maybe be a bit bigger than their other products, but I don't find that it gets in the way at all.
It's simple to set up. Just open the packets of crystals and dump them into the container, put the strainer looking piece over it and snap on the lid.
I'm using mine in my basement which is notorious for smelling damp and gross when it's humid outside. After using this for about a month during many humid days, I did not have any odor coming from the basement.
What I like about this product is that it's fragrance free and re-usable. You just have to empty it out and re-fill it with new crystals. It says that you can flush the liquid down the toilet once the crystals have dissolved, but I'd prefer to just throw them in the trash.

This is a wonderful product to keep problematic moist areas smelling and feeling dry and fresh. I have tested two of these in a 400 sf. basement living space with bathroom that has moisture problems and smelled musty like a basement would with moisture.
The set up was as easy as cutting open the bag of moisture-trapping pellets and pouring into the top section of the plastic container, then covering the container with the top and placing in the desired space.
Within a week, the air quality had improved dramatically. After a few weeks, the air smell is like the rest of the house and the damp feeling in the bathroom has been impressively diminished. The box does take up some room but I am impressed with the results.
