I purchased this unit in May 2015 to replace a unit that had done the job for over 12 years. Unit is used in the basement from Mid April- Mid September, set at 50%. The pump is not used, we empty the tank on a regular basis. Unit has been properly maintained with all maintenance (mainly cleaning the air filter) performed. It has worked well for four summers. This year I checked it over, turned it on, and set it. A few days later I looked to check the tank and realized that it was not dehumidifying. I've gone back over everything and let it run for another few days and all it does is blow air. I realize that getting 12 years out of something in this day and age is probably not realistic, but maybe at least half that? Coincidentally, the remaining parts warranty (no labor now) is up in a few weeks. Not worth the trouble. I definitely do not recommend this product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warranty is NOT Reasonable The machine worked great, until it didn't, After four years of running it for about 4-5 months out of each year, the machine stopped drawing water. I called the manufacturer, and was told that the warranty covered parts, not labor. Fine. Reasonable even. But then the representative told me that I would have to ship the machine THREE STATES AWAY to their service center. I researched the costs, and between the labor and the shipping, it would come close to the cost of a new machine! I tried to get them to consider allowing me to take it to a closer repair shop, one that I researched, and has contracts with the likes of LG and Panasonic, but they refused. They would not consider an alternative. If your machines break, shouldn't you stand by them, and not create an undo burden on the customer? I will not buy another DeLonghi again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from highly recommended Read reviews prior to purchase. Was a little concerned about those that complained about noise level. I do not find it obnoxiously loud at all. Would be nice if fan also shut off when set humidity level is reached, but it does not. Havent figured out timer settings yet - it appears you might have to set it to turn off after a # of hours, and then turn back on after a # of hours. Seems like it would be easier to set time to turn off (ie. 8:00 a.m.) and time to turn back on (8:00 p.m.) but what do I know. Overall works great, Is really amazing how much water it collects in my basement. Beware - if power goes off while you are using pump option, settings will revert and water will collect in bucket and then machine will turn off when bucket is full. But at least machine turns off and there is not any water leakage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DeLonghi DD50PE Dehumidifier is Effective but Too Noisy This DD50PE dehumidifier works quite well, except that it often makes a fairly loud, penetrating, high-pitched noise, like a whistle. The pitch is about 550 Hz. I have several of these dehumidifiers, and they all do it, but some more than others. The noise seems to be caused by the air being forced through the grill, so the air vibrates, as it does in a flute. I confirmed this two ways: First, I placed my hand over various parts of the grill, and that caused the intensity of the noise to change. Next, I removed the cover and grill, and confirmed that there is no whistle at all when the grill is removed. But grill is an integral part of the housing, and you cannot leave it off permanently. I find the high-pitched, whistling noise sufficiently annoying that the DeLonghi DD50PE dehumidifier is unacceptable for use in my living area. It's a pity, because otherwise, it's a good dehumidifier. The design engineers should have considered the acoustics, and modified the grill so that it would not whistle. I'm giving it one star, because it doesn't matter how effective it is if it's too noisy to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of Junk! At first glance a great product, but if you are going to use the pump be ready to replace it once a week! On my third pump, each one lasts about a week. Would not recommend to anyone wanting to use the pump. Removes the humidity fine, but I have it in a empty house and need the pump to work, cannot go there once a week to empty container.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No local repair options Good unit. Works as advertised. However, the pump hose connector became clogged and the manufacturer required shipment to authorized dealer for repair in NJ. I live in MI. They won't even sell the part.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from it gets the wet out. I've got a wet basement, and one of the main culprits is a laundry room with a dirt floor under plywood. no matter what i do, there must be enough groundwater seepage to raise the relative humidity in the basement quite a bit. While the DeLonghi was one of the pricier units i looked at, it had a high capacity and, most importantly, a pump for continuous draining into the utility sink next to it (see pictures). In fact, I had it set up without the pump hose for the first couple of days, and it was filling up the (large) reservoir twice a day. Since it's been running all the time, the RH has dropped in that part of the basement from the high 60s to 43% as of today (and it's still dropping). The only real problem right now (since it's going nonstop) is that it's raising the temperature in the basement (a little annoying in the summer), but this won't be a problem come the colder weather. In fact, it'll be a plus...
